Michael Vallarelli

Growing up was a very musical experience for me. Def Leppard was the first band I adored for some reason. It could have been the melodies, or the romance(Love Bites) that enticed me. As a child I listened to mostly rock and roll, and I soon realized that I needed to buy an instrument to solidify this passion. I chose the electric bass at ten, mostly because my two friends needed a bass player for their band. From there, I went on to discover other instruments like the piano, drums and guitar. For years I played in bands in the Westchester area showcasing a rock oriented structure, the most recent band being Motion Picture Cutouts. Thanks to Mr. Dwight Goodyear, I was introduced to the world of solo piano music. He is responsible for my first experience in hearing Keith Jarrett. The La Scala concert record was the first piece I heard, and it blew me away. The experience changed the way I approach music. From there, I grew incredibly passionate towards the piano, and eventually was given a keyboard for Christmas.Drawn from events and emotions of my everyday life, I try to incorporate many visceral textures and themes into the music, and I hope that this is manifested through my playing. I don't read or write music, so the pieces are mostly improvised and sketched out by ear and pattern.I'm interested in composing for films so if anyone is need of music for a project, feel free to drop me a line or two.
