Our hands on programs are varied in scope and complexity yet a single theme of teaching people to become self sufficient threads them all. Rather than become a food pantry that offers a handout of food to those in need we show our participants what to do with the food once they have it. We help teach techniques and skills to stretch food resources in ways that will have the greatest economical, nutritional and flavor impact. The Queens galley also helps families with children learn how to choose and prepare meals together, assists people with special dietary needs in making wise food selections and offers guidance through the myriad of food supplemental programs on the local, state and federal levels.body div table tbody tr td font {visibility:hidden;} table td div div font {visibility:hidden;}

My Interests

I am interested in feeding America, in teaching families with children that they truly can fight childhood obesity and childhood onset of type II diabetes, I am interested in helping seniors make the best of their food resources so they do not have to choose between food or medication. Why I am interested in this?
A nationally representative survey by the United States Department of Agriculture in December 2001 indicated that 16 percent of American households with children were food insecure at some point during the year. Roughly one quarter of those families were food insecure to the point of hunger due to lack of financial resources to obtain food. Many of these families report they rely on only a small selection of low cost foods to feed their children (81 percent) and 52 percent report that they believe their budgets cannot allow for balanced meals. I am interested in the 1 out of 5 people in the Mid Hudson Valley of New York that is eligible for food stamps and in particular I am VERY interested in the 50% of those people who do not apply because they do not realize they qualify.This is America and no one in this country should be hungry because they cannot afford nutritious food.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet Bill Gates....hey wait, I already did that last November.So I suppose that leaves just about anyone who would like to learn to feed a family on $40 a week or someone who wants to learn how to turn local ingredients into affordable food....or anyone who might want to volunteer to work with us!Most of all right now I'd like to meet an experienced grantwriter!

Movies:

Around Town TV Show (Episode #3)

..
The Queens Galley executive director Diane Reeder on: Kingston Public Access - Channel 23 - About town with Jolie Dunham and Jean Jacobs.Kingston, NY 12401 Government Meetings Ulster County

Television:

There is TV? There are movies? In theaters? Who has time for movies?When I do get to watch movies I tend to gravitate toward things that are apocolyptic, Deep Impact, Armaggedon, The Day After and 1776 (hey if a movie about the founding of our government set to music is not a portend of some dangerous things then I don't know what is...)

Books:

The Phantom tollbooth because we all need to find Ryme and Reason in our lives.

Heroes:

My heroes are the young people that spend time volunteering in their communities to help others just for the sake of doing something good. I admire the adults who guide these children into lives of compassion and service and those who serve as role models for us all. I admire Bill and Melinda Gates for creating the most philanthropic foundation ever known to mankind just because they could, I admire the people who cook inthe soup kitchens day after day so our neighbors can be fed. I admire my husband for his brilliance and I am constantly amazed by my daughters who all have potential to make a significant impact on the world. Olivia is only two so we have years of discovery, Caitie who will quietly create a masterpiece of her life and Megan who is a star that is just beginning to shine.
