My 2 cents on movies I've recently seen in the theatre.
The following scale was created by Brian and I after years of seeing movies together...
YEA-I loved it YEH-I liked it EH-It was alright NEH-I didn't dig it NAY-I hated it
Harry Potter 5 - Yeh
I could go on and on and on about how bad this movie was from adaptation to pure cinematic merrit. But, it doesn't matter, because I really enjoyed it. So there.
You Kill Me - Yeh
A dryer darker Grosse Point Blank. If nothing else, its worth seeing for Ghandi as an alcoholic hit man,
Live Free Or Die Hard - Eh/Yeh
There actually was a pretty decent Die Hard movie hidden in the middle of all the excess and annoyances, but you have to look pretty hard to find it.
Ratatouille - Yea
Not the funniest Pixar film, but maybe the best "movie" they've made yet.
Sicko - Hell Yea
It's hard to say that Moore is a great documentarian since he's more of a propagandist, but he is a brilliant filmmaker. And once again, he's successfully made me want to move to another country.
Transformers - Neh/Eh
I don't expect much from summer action films (especially ones from Michael Bay), but they almost totally missed the point on this one. Shame, it could have been so cool.
Ocean's 13 - Yea
They made up for 12 by going back to their roots, and telling a single story about the whole group pulling off one job...and making it look so fun.
Paris Je T'aime - Yeh
Like any anthology, there were some hits and some misses, but as a whole a great collection of different visions of Paris as well as for telling a short story.
Knocked Up - Yea/Hell Yea
Judd Apatow is the king of pulling your heart strings while making you laugh at sophmoric humor.
Pirates 3 - Eh/Yeh
The last hour is worth sitting through the excruciating middle.
28 Weeks Later - Yea
This is to 28 Days Later, what Aliens was to Alien. A kick ass action follow up to a smaller "subtler" horror film.
Spiderman - Yeh
Like the other two some of it was awesome and some of it was lame, but this time I left the theatre and the awesomeness hadn't washed away the parts of lame from my mind.
Grindhouse - Yeh/Yea
Great experience. Fun for those who love explotation flix. Although Death Proof seems like it wanted to be more than what it was.
Hot Fuzz - Yea
Not quite up to Shaun of the Dead, but bloody brilliant none the less. These guys clearly make movies because they LOVE movies.
The Lookout - Yea
Joseph Gordon Levitt is the king of neo-noir. tight all the way aound from Scott Frank's wrting/directing to the every performance in the cast. Especially Bridges and Levitt.
Zodiac - Yea
The best movie I've seen this year. Absolutely engrossing, but if you don't get sucked in, I can see how it will be unbearably boring.
The Wind That Shakes The Barley - Yeh/Yea
Powerful film that examines the hopelessness of war from a very human perspective. Although the English are portrayed a little one sidedly.
300 - Eh/Yeh
Entertaining, and cool to look at, but left me empty.
..
Pretty accurate discription of me...
Beta Males almost always make good fathers. They tend to be steady and responsible, the kind of guys a girl (if she was resolved to do without the seven-figure salary or the thirty-six-inch vertical leap) would want as a father for her children. Of course, she'd rather not have to sleep with him for that to happen, but after you've been kicked to the curb by a few Alpha Males, the idea of waking up in the arms of a guy who will adore you, if for no other reason than gratitude for sex, and will always be there, even past the point where you can stand to have him around, is a comforting compromise.
For the Beta Male, if nothing else, is loyal. He makes a great husband as well as a great best friend. He will help you move and bring you soup when you are sick. Always considerate, the Beta Male thanks a woman after sex, and is often quick with an apology as well. He makes a great house sitter, especially if you aren't especially attached to you house pets. A Beta Male is trustworthy: your girlfriend is generally in safe hands with a Beta Male friend, unless, of course, she is a complete slut. (In fact, the complete slut through history may be exclusively responsible for the survival of the Beta male gene, for loyal as he may be, the Beta Male is helpless in the face of charging unimaginary bosoms.)
