I never leave on a trip without my MP3 player! Music holds such a great importance in my life. At the core of my heart and mind there is Trance, in orbit around Trance are House, Dance, Country, Latin and Classical. Music and song evoke such a strong emotion in me at times. The sound of Dolly Parton singing when you have had a bad day always makes me smile and transports me back to the all the cool summer nights sitting at Cherokee Dam in Jefferson City, TN. watching the lightning bugs dance around , Patsy Cline explaining how life is better lived than thought about makes me miss Thanksgiving, my family and unsweetened flavored ice tea, Gloria Estefan and the allure of the drums reminds me of sneaking out at 16 and going to The Waterfront, a small latin bar in Miami or even Beethovens 5th Symphony which conjures up sadness and the excitement of travel. No matter how you look at it, music is the one thing I can always fall back on, loose myself in and share with friends.
This is one subject that I will take great pains to attend to this winter. Movies are my favorite medium, there is something about the dark and cold room with its huge screen flickering images that entrances me. The popcorn and huge soda help out immensely, however the price sets me back. I usually wait for the DVD, but Strangers with Candy was hysterical! Past favorites include Point of No Return, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Fried Green Tomatoes, the Lord of The Rings trilogy, Auntie Mame, Gone With The Wind and just about all scary, horror and sci-fi movies. I must add, I think Felicity Huffman did a great job in Transamerica!
I'm not a big television viewer, I manage to catch a few programs here and there, however with my schedule it is rare that I see the same thing on a regular basis. The programs I see and enjoy at this time are Greys Anatomy, Project Runway, Reno 911, South Park and a few of the shows scattered her and there on the Travel, History, Discovery and National Geographic channels. Older programs that I can not seem to get enough of are Strangers with Candy, Golden Girls, Designing Women and Xena. Go figure...
This subject has been the most challenging and contains the greatest area of growth in my recent life. Haitian author Eldridge Danticat has entranced me with tales of her life growing up in Haiti and the superstitions of daily life and how they have carried over into life here in the States. Leil Lowndes has unknowingly written a book that has fast become my social bible, Talk to Anyone: 92 Little Tricks for Big Success in Relationships and rounding out my summer reading is Michael Crichton and his Quantum Physics book, Timeline. I have a few books on tape such as Thinner by Stephen King and a few by James Redfield furthering his studies on the Celestine Prophecy that I listen to while commuting to and from Seattle. And as always, I have yet to miss a book by Sylvia Browne.
I do not really have heroes. There are people that have traits that I admire however, as a whole I believe people are flawed. These flaws are simply part of who we are and not to be judged by me. I admire my mothers strength, my sisters patience, Lance Armstrongs endurance, and a few of my friends have some amazing qualities I wish I could make my own ranging from zest for life to quest for inner peace and love of all people. If you were looking for something a little more fantasy filled here, let me satisfy you now, Captain Kathryn Janeway, Commander of the starship U.S.S. Voyager.
