About Me

Since surfacing in 1999, Phase’s productions have consistently gained the attention of high profile DJ’s and Techno legends such as Derrick May, Jeff Mills and Laurent Garnier. His various works for such prominent labels as London's Lost/Cosmic Records, Inceptive, Belgium’s Token records and Ben Sims’ Ingoma imprint have also featured in CD mixes by Robert Hood, François Kevorkian, Adam Beyer, Japan’s Fumiya Tanaka and Dave Clarke amongst others…

His 2007 release “Morodem” on Belgium’s Token records was hailed as a future classic, attracting critical acclaim and number 1 charting from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Steve Rachmad and Ben Sims. His 2000 debut “Module Overload” meanwhile, continues to be a much sort-after underground release with 2nd hand copies changing hands for as much as 30 euros.

Alongside his production work Phase is also a Mastering engineer and part-time artwork designer. Starting out at London’s prestigious Sony Music/Whitfield Street Studios he has cut records for numerous underground dance acts as well working on projects for mainsteam artists. His various artworks can be found on the Inceptive Records (UK) back catalogue amongst other places...

One of the most interesting London-based artists; his productions are very deep and intense - they could be given as a perfect example of pure "minimal techno" definition. His style has something in common with Steve Bicknell - both of them produce hypnotic, stripped-down music. However, it's impossible not to notice basic differences between their stuff. The only problem with mr Burchett is that he doesn't release new ep's very often, which is a pity. Fortunately, his upcoming "Timespace?" on Inceptive is brilliant and I am sure his ["Espresso"] release on Theory 29 will be perfect as well.

Phase's debut for Cosmic ["Module Overload"] is probably one of the most stunning and original pieces of 'sci-fi' techno that I've ever had the fortune to come across. I'd be hard pressed to find another techno record that features the depth and gravity contained within this piece of wax. B1 is the pick of the bunch, a heavy chugger that throbs along with flashes of cascading drums and futuristic pitches and drones. It's as though Phase has made this with the Lost dancefloor in mind. I can certainly listen/look back with fond memories as musical hypnosis set in when Bicknell dropped this on the floor at Lost..
