Growing up as an African kid in the country that looted from your own motherland can be a tough pill to swallow, especially if you are Ghanaian living in England. Having suffered racism, poor housing and not being able to gain the same success in the workplace as your white counterparts, coupled with not being able to escape from the constant reminders of the wealth that surrounds you, attributed to the slave trade, life can be very hard indeed for black males here not to snap.For one it became all too much, as a coping mechanism he began to form a split personality. One half is a diplomatic social entrepreneur who cares about the community and tries to make a difference through his only vice…music. The other side of him……..well lets just say, isn’t going to win the Nobel price any day soon.Whereas some decide to work, take drugs, sell them or swim in alcohol to escape the sight of the injustices that exist for black in this country, the other side of him decided not to do any of that.
This ‘darker side’ decided to (metaphorically speaking) “do as the Romans do†and steal….steal anything he could get his hands on. He began to steal so much that it became a habit. In fact he began to steal so much that he became a kleptomaniac! Deep down knowing that he is morally wrong for his actions, each side of him would wrestle within for victory of his emotions and actions. Although the good side was always trying to do the right thing, his ‘darker side’ justifying his bad actions by presenting himself as a modern day Robin hood to get back at the system that put his people in the situation they now find themselves in.It is story of his darker side that we sharing with you. This is the story of Scankman.Noticing how successful friends like Fallacy and Mystro have become as well as how wac mc’s have become lately, he has become frustrated at how today’s “MC’s can chat shit about cars and blood diamonds, when there’s a f*ckin war going on for hearts and minds†and has decided to take music more seriously by currently recording his EP Black Foot Hustlin (Release date sometime in May) to pull who he can out of the matrix.
