Ever since I was 7 years old, I've been writing screenplays. Of course back in those days, I didn't know how to write a proper screenplay, so they were more like play scripts. I learned how to do the format from Three Stooges script books I got from the Westerville Library when I was in middle school, and it was tab and dashes at first sight. I don't use sissy script format programs. Nope. Don't need to. Didn't have one of those Texas Instruments in high school to do my math. Didn't have a teacher that knew how to teach those stupid equations without one. I did the problems by digging through the textbook by myself. I passed, so I dont' worry about not having enough money to make movies. Screw that!
But its difficult to make movies by myself. No one wants to watch a movie that was filmed by the actor holding the camera as far away from himself as he can. Thatd be nothing more than foreheads and chins and pretentious distraction. So, I dont get to make the movies as often as I want to. I have to focus my time and energy into things that will work for me. My main focus right now is trying to get an agent for my literary work. To do this, I feel my resume has to have a few more credits of note. I feel this way because to date no agent has given a rats backside about any query Ive sent out. Since the query is little more than a note and a copy of my resume, I think its fairly obvious that my credits are lacking. Either that or I suck at writing notes.
I write a ton for Drunken Cat Comics (see my number 2 friend below), and together Brian Canini (the artist) and I are hoping to bring a new front of independent work to the comic book industry. Im also trying to get a couple of novels ready for publishing. This is extremely time consuming and strenuous, so Im moving as quickly as I can without destroying the stories. And Im helping with as many film shoots as I can. I will pull cable, hold a boom, help build a set, dig in dumpsters for props, reflect light with my albino white skin onto the actors, WHATEVER for a friend in need.
Drunken Cat Comics and Wolf In Wool have come together in an Artists Contract that helps us to focus on our craft(s) and goals and to shame ourselves into action. The contract is as follows:
The Artist's Contract
W e the people of this union, not being the union of holy matrimony but of something equally binding yet less gay, hereby decree our time, energy, and wholehearted ambitions toward the realization of our dreams, those dreams being of artistic in nature and economic by necessity and of varying scope.
Brian Canini hereby declares his interest in creating a career in the field of comic books, professional writing, and/or commercial art and insists these professions as his key endeavor.
David Grant, having of solemn mind and body, agrees to work toward his endeavor of gaining an agent and garnishing a film career in acting, writing, or of a more intense capacity.
In the interest of these goals, Mr. Canini and Mr. Grant have come to this agreement in an effort to focus their time, energy, and talents to accomplishing what they have set out to do. In doing so, they agree to:
If you feel inspired by our commitment to our craft(s), and you would like to sign "The Artist's Contract" or you want to frame a similar declaration or constitution, drop me an e-mail. I'd love to hear about your pursuits.,
