About Me

I have lived in a quiet suburb of Chicago my whole life, which started in 1969. Having been a depressed kid who wasn't as smart as his parents wanted to believe, I found music was a great sedative. Unfortunately, my late teens also brought new, exciting sedatives into the picture............................. Fourteen years of general wastedness later, I cleaned up and made a CD, called "Vice Verses". One song from the CD was nominated by wwwJustPlainFolks.com for Best Lyrics in the Male Singer/Songwriter field, and I was ranked by their discrimnating judges as one of the Top 5 Best Live Performers in the country (out of about 15,000 participants). Also, at one point, www.AmericanIdolUnderground.com rated Whatever Remains in the top 50 most popular songs in its class. In the following year, I formed a trio and played most major venues in Chicago, including the House of Blues, Schuba's, Cubby Bear, and more. The trio lasted about two years, before the players left for other interests. In 2003 and 2004, I went twice around the UK with the Chicago Music Explosion, and in 2004, I had a great tour through the Eastern US. I continued gigging pretty regularly around Chicago when, in 2005, I got my Jeep broken into after a show, and lost ALL my gear, and lot of other stuff, amounting to about an $11,000 loss. I still had an acoustic guitar, and spent the next year and all my money rebuilding what I had worked so hard to build up.................................... Meanwhile, I got asked by Chris Steinmetz of Stonecutter Records to be part of a compilation CD called Acoustic Chicago, which will feature lots of great acoustic-styled talent from around Chicago. Through Chris, I got to work with drummer/percussionist Ernie Adams (Al DiMeola, Ramsey Lewis, MANY more), 7-string bass guru Bill "The Buddha" Dickens, and drummer Vance Okraszevski. This compilation is an ongoing work, but I will post news of its progress as I get it................................. I've got my rock rig up again, and also a drummer. We are called RIGHT RONGLY, and we will rock you out. I'll still be playing solo shows, but I will be focusing more and more on RIGHT RONGLY................................. Until we can afford the website, look for RIGHT RONGLY at www.myspace.com/rightrongly, after MySpace fixes the technical glitch that's preventing me from updating the whole page....Rrrrgh....

"Soul", and use of the word

I was recently at a music show, and the performer was gettin' into it, and someone turned and remarked to me, "Now THAT guy's got SOUL!" I replied, rather quickly, "What's that?"  And then the gu...
