About Me

If I could have my portrait painted by one artist from the history of art it would be Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

My Interests

My interests mostly seem to involve writing a ground-breaking phd thesis about masochism and film. And dancing around. And laughing involuntarily at random thoughts. And taxidermy for some reason.

I'd like to meet:

Josh Homme

Music:

Look, I'm doing this properly now. But I still like Beyonce Nick Cave and Meatloaf. And also: The Distillers, Peaches, Leonard Cohen, Tool, Monster Magnet, Iron Maiden, Rachel Stevens, The Evens, William Elliot Whitmore, Fiona Apple, Saul Williams, Ugly Duckling, Roots Manuva, Duran Duran, Beck, the Deftones, Sublime, Amon Tobin, the Pixies, the Be Good Tanyas, Pantera, De La Soul, the Fratellis, Hole, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, John Cale, Death in Vegas, Machine Head, Kelis, Philip Glass, Four Tet, Ry Cooder, PJ Harvey, Rocket From the Crypt, Frank Black, Bjork, Har Mar Superstar, Clouddead, Andrew WK, Beastie Boys, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Dolly Parton, Sigur Ros, Madrugada, Pharrell Williams. That is enough for now.

Movies:

Many films including such directors as Christopher Nolan, Todd Phillips, Liliana Cavani, Takeshi Miike, Lars von Trier, David Cronenberg, Eli Roth, David Lynch, Catherine Breillat, Claire Denis, Atom Egoyan, Rob Reiner, Pedro Almodovar, Speilberg, Fassbinder, Michael Haneke (who I regard as being a genius although I await the Hollywood remake of Funny Games with trepidation), Ridley Scott, Neil Labute, Gasper Noe, etc etc

Television:

Ant and Dec (even though Dec is a sexual pervert)

Books:

Here are some authors I like: Julian Barnes, Will Self, Pat Califia, Dorothy Allison, Toby Litt, Sarah Waters, William Goldman, Vladimir Nabokov, Cynthia Heimal, Lemony Snicket, George Orwell, Mervyn Peake, Walter Moers, Jasper Fforde, Donna Tartt. My favourite books of all ever are Perfume, And the Ass Saw the Angel, Carter Beats the Devil and the Molesworth books by Geoffrey Willans and Ronald Searle.

Heroes:

Last night I had the rather unlikely dream that Ronnie O'Sullivan was knighted so now perhaps I must admit he is my hero.

Poor lovely Ronnie

Oh Ronnie! Ronnie Ronnie Ronnie. Such a thing has never been seen before in all the history of snooker. Conceding the quarter final after only five frames. It makes me sad that Ronnie is so troubled. ...

I lied

I don't really think snooker is evil. I LOVE IT. It's not the snookers fault that I have no willpower whatsoever. That is all.

The evil distractions of snooker

How I am expected to get any work done when the snooker is perpetually on television, for hours and hours at a time, for the duration of which I may watch the smooth unchanging baize and hear the soot...

I want to be welsh

Here is the improved mood! Ahahaha! Much hilarity of the Welsh rap collective kind. This commenced with the sighting of a fucking huge glowing snowman, who frankly had rather an evil face. His nose al...

For fuck's sake

I know what will be amusing... if I do loads of overtime at work and they don't bother to pay me for it! And why (oh why) do old ladies think it's ok to touch you when you talk to them? I don't want a...

Sleeplessness

How I detest this insatiable insomnia. It makes everything wrong... the sheets are too scritchy, my feet are too hot, my wrist keeps making a bizarre clicking sound when I move it, the insect bite on ...

Which god am I?

I did one of those stupid quizzes on the internet, this quiz was entitled 'which creation artist are you?' (as in, band from the Creation records stable, not like God who of course was also an artist ...

John Travolta, arsenic, and incest (the hot topics of the moment)

It seems that a remake of Hairspray is being made. Can this be a good idea? Why would you remake such a thing? For those who don't know, Hairspray is a genius John Waters film starring Ricki Lake and ...

I've got 100 friends...

Hornhead baby

The subject of today's blog (should there be an apostrophe there? I can't remember) is horns, or more specifically, the possibility of shaping the malleable head of a newborn child into hornlike protu...
