“Monsters Under the Bed” (Monstruos Bajo la Cama, LeRockPsicophonique, 2006), has been like a shadow lurking around my head for quite a while now. I don’t know how it started or where it came from, but it developed in its very own way. The songs became duties that I had to finish. Sometimes I cursed them in my heart, but that was partly because I didn’t have (and still do not have) the ability to texture them into sound the way I thought they should be. Somehow, anyway, I managed to finish them, to get rid of them and gather them into this album, though probably just the other way about to what they used to be in my head. Thus, that gruesome shadow jumping around my bed one day just stopped moving and left me alone for a while. The album was finished. A year has passed now and I couldn’t really say whether the music it cointains is good or, at least, acceptable. It has become acceptable for me, at least. I used to spend a long time in just one passage here and there, so I dare say that the album has its moments, which for me have become part of a mythical stage in my live. I’ve never known where the songs you record are supposed to take you. Hopefully somewhere nice. Still, meantime, they can help you through. Most of the copies have been distributed hand to hand by myself or friends, sometimes for free. You see, I’m not good at trading with my own bloody stuff. Anyway, dear listener, one of the essentials of music, in my opinion, is the power of making audible that what was not meant to be said. My favourite music always achieves that, it whispers in a way. My time with this album is reaching an end now. If I was lucky, probably two or three people in the world got to listen to it and liked it. Thanks a lot. New songs and landscapes are unfolding. And they require attention. There are many things that I have not the face to say no to, one of them, and for sure the most obvious one here, is writing songs. I hope one day, when I wake up in the morning, some audible epiphany allows me to actually see all the songs I recorded in my life as I had imagined them rather than as I had made them. I would be happy with that mere anecdote. And I would go and tell the others. Take care...
