By their own admission, 2006 was not the year Bismarck were expecting. But now they are back older, wiser, married ;-) but just as rocking. Actually, there was a mistruth in there, some of them are wiser, others are stuck in Neverland and like Peter Pan, they enjoy wearing green tights.
Like the Iron Chancellor that bore their name, this Glasgow 5 piece are determined to leave their mark on history. Whether that means creating an aggressive empire that wants to rule the world or not, they don't know but one thing is for sure, they will spread the gospel of rock on their way.
Having spent the later part of last year in the studio, Bismarck are hoping to find a new audience as they widen their net over the country. There has never been any doubting their musical ability or the energy of their live shows, now they hope to add a little studio nous to their repertoir.
All the old favourites are there. Bismarck's commitment to rejecting whatever sound is flavour of the month remains. Those looking for the "Glasgow sound" of the Fratellis or Franz Ferdinand are going to leave here empty handed as new songs like the heavy Virtue, the fast paced Spin Me Round and the AC/DC inspired Get It On continue Bismarck's musical progression to all round rock gods.
As for the lads, Dougal struts his stuff at the front, Nel effortlessly batters out another great tune while Rob energetically fires of solo after solo, rhythm after rhythm. As for the back line, Jamie thunders through his bass lines and The Stank just manages to keep the beat after another alcohol induced evening.
