Biography
Once upon a time....in a cramped attic just off the north circular, singer/songwriter Charlie Afif and guitarist/keyboard/ player Alex Mattey spent the best part of a year writing, recording and searching for a sound they could call their own. Drawing on their wildly varied influences they produced a handful of demos that set the template for the Trail sound. Tragically, this period also saw their undignified decline into Subway addiction.
Deciding that it was time to take the songs to the masses, Alex drafted in two of his old partners in crime; Eireann Kelly on guitar and Simon Glynn on bass. Drummers came and went as the band continued to develop their songs and stage craft and as the first album’s material became finalised so did the rhythmic backbone of the band. Without a doubt the hardest hitting drummer to come out of the Westcountry, Chris Wood ensures that Trail can never be accused of lacking musical power.
2007 saw the band start to make a big impact; Winning Capital 95.8’s unsigned competition, making the final 10 of O2 undiscovered, and a string of impressive gigs including Hyde Park’s O2 wireless festival all ensured Trail started to attract attention. So much so in fact, that in order to retain some degree of public annonymity, Alex has now resorted to wearing a hat on stage. 2008 is shaping up to be even bigger for Trail. Gigs are already lined up at Monto Water Rats (supporting Fiction Plane in their only UK tour date), Carling Academy Islington, LA2 and 93 Feet East, as well as plans to record their debut album with SliceThePie.com .
