About Me

...Hi!My name is Stuart and I'm 20. I live in the beautiful City of Coventry in termtime and the equally aesthetically pleasing Northampton in the holidays. I'm reading for a masters degree in Physics at the University of Warwick. I like table football and guitar music. I have several rubber ducks. Rubber ducks are possibly the most inherently cool thing in the universe. I'm a Christian, which means that I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died for me, and I've asked him into my life. More of that in my blog. If you have a different opinion on that stuff I won't judge you though :) Get in touch and talk about it! That's about all I can think of to say, for now. Oh no, wait, it isn't! Check this out:Clicking there will give money for food to those who need it, at no cost to you. It's all paid for by advertising. Go there daily if you can - you could even set it as your home page. This next bit is the part of my page that God writes.
Oh, and by the way...I know where you live.
You have been marked on my profile map! Warning: Much of this profile has been written and editted in the early hours of the morning as an alternative to sleeping, the sort of time when everything seems funnier or more lucid than it actually is. Therefore if some of it sounds weird, there might be a reason for that. Might.
Take care. Love to you all.

My Interests

God and music. Physics can be interesting, but maybe doing a degree in it has killed some of my enthusiasm. Books. Bed. Table football. Nature. Talking to people who are different. Thinking. Doing weird and stupid things with my friends, just because someone suggested it and it sounded stupid. Playing the guitar, piano or bass, esecially as part of a band. Sitting up late discussing social theories, music, politics, God, philosophies etc. Philosophy in general is interesting.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone really. Unless you're only trying to get me to buy or view pornography, I would love to hear from you. Send me a message. It could be the start of a beautiful friendship :)
and, obv,...for obvious reasons. This guy too. His philosophy is brilliant. We need more people like him. More Hugs For Everyone!Free Hugs

Music:

My Music
I like too many bands/artists/groups to mention. However, here are a couple that are maybe less well known that you should check out.
Infected Mushroom Israeli psytrance band. Good use of sampling, brilliant basslines, general genius.
Ludovico Einaudi Amazing pianist/composer, I saw him in concert a couple years ago. The way he develops themes is awesome and has influenced my own playing.
Portishead Experimental, sometimes haunting music. The vocalist has a delicate and fairly unique voice.
Flaming Lips Somehow manage to be consistently voted best band/album of the year by many critics and still be unknown to many people. Difficuly to describe...definitely worth a listen.
AU4 One of the only bands that I've accepted a friend invite on MySpace from. They make very cool, ambient music which also manages to be quite beautiful. As well as that, I like a lot of more mainstream music. Mostly I'm into rock, but my taste is quite broad.....ical, jazz, blues, some *proper* dance, electronic, experimental, ambient, old-style rock and roll (Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, that kind of stuff) and of course psytrance! One other thing...music should be enjoyed for the way it SOUNDS. Saying that you stopped liking a band because they "went mainstream" is, in my opinion, just a little bit ridiculous.Videos
Here's an amazing video by the Postal Service...love it.
I've recently got into Radiohead, thanks to my friends' good taste in music. This is one of the best music vidoes I've ever seen. And finally, a classic video of the KLF classic "Justified and Ancient". Early '90s pop at its best. Are YOU all bound for Mu-Mu Land?
One final recommendation:
The Teddies

Movies:

The Movies
Only recently started properly getting into films, but I like most, I've only seen a couple I really wasn't interested in (Cheaper By The Dozen being one, I was at someone else's house, it wasn't my fault ok?) Mainly I like films in the U, PG, 12A range as I'm not a fan of violence etc. Animations like Pixar and Dreamworks are good. As are other genres, apart from slasher/horror/war. tum-tee-tum Ooh look, a marquee.

Television:

The Idiot's Lantern
Television is poor. Some of it is all right, but it annoys me that something like television, with all its potential, can be allowed to be so mundane and mediocre. The best things on TV are documentaries, music and comedies. But seriously, I pay about £25 a year for the licence (I live with four other guys) and it's still barely worth it.

Books:

Books
The Bible. I don't read it enough. It's changed my life and gives me hope and meaning to life.
Longitude by Dava Sobel is a brilliant read.
University Physics with Modern Physics, 11th Edition, by Young and Freedman (no, maybe not)
Taming The Tiger, a biography of a Kung Fu world champion. I can hardly recommend this book enough. Most people I know who have read it couldn't put it down. It's fascinating, exciting and compelling. Not for kids though, it's pretty graphic.
All the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Books about the current dispute about Intelligent Design.
Any Mike and Psmith, Blandings or Jeeves book by P.G. Wodehouse.
etc...

Heroes:

Bible bit
Part of the Bible that's currently on my mind. John chapter 4 verses 13 and 14 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." John chapter 10 verses 10 I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. I find it comforting that life isn't what I sometimes make it. To a great extent, it is true that life is what you make it. I tend to sometimes slip into habit and routine and sleepwalk my way through the day, never really living but doing things automatically. These days it's even easier to do that - go to work during the day, get home and mechanically entertain yourself in the evening, sleep. Entertainment has made it so easy for us to turn our brains off, and sometimes the meaning in life seems to disappear, sliding into an autonomous existence. That's not much of an incentive to get up for because it's meaningless. Entertainment fades and amusement can't work all the time (a-musement...as in not thinking...see where the word comes from?). The feeling that there must be something more to life cannot be shaken or avoided with anything this world has to give. I've tried. In the end, it's meaningless. Jesus came so that we can have life to the full. The meaning that everyone craves so much can be found in a relationship with him. Everything the world offers is ultimately unfulfilling and leaves a thirst, but knowing Jesus means that life can be worthwhile.Comments, thoughts, questions, accusations, responses in general...message or comment me!
