The Beautiful Life

About Me

Myspace Backgrounds I recently returned to DC after a four year stint in Los Angeles. Although I miss the sushi, the weather and the peace of the ocean (or the mountains if you just drive over the 405 - ahh, such diversity), I couldn't ever really think of LA as a place I could live forever. While I figure it out, I thought it best to come back to DC and spend some quality time with my 3 nephews and 2 nieces - I only had 1 niece and 1 nephew when I left! Time flies!!I've been here almost 2 years and I'm already feeling restless and thinking of the next place. Miami? Love the scene, but it's WAY too hot and muggy. New Orleans? My all time favorite city in the U.S., but I doubt it will ever be the same again after Hurricane Katrina. Chicago? Lovely, but the winters may be too brutal. NYC? Plenty of job offers, decent salaries, but I STILL couldn't afford a decent place in Manhattan (without a severe change in my standard of living). ATL? Would you believe I have NEVER been outside of layovers at the airport? San Fran? Too cold, too rainy, too expensive, just too prohibitive period. So, you see my dilemma - I don't necessarily want to be here, but then where do I want to be?The older I get, the more important it becomes to me to do something that matters. What's my legacy? What have I done to improve society? I'm concerned about so many issues that aren't getting enough attention in the mainstream media - I honestly get urges to run for City Council, start a non-profit aimed at HIV/AIDS awareness and tolerance of homosexuality in the Black community - without it, we're just going to keep dying. It will be a whole lot harder to be judgmental when there's no one left for people to judge. Everyone should get tested, but black folks particularly - we are DYING! An ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure - cliche, but true. It's a simple swab now, no needles necessary (at least at Whitman Walker Clinic in DC) called an OraSure test. 20 minutes for the results and YEARS for the relief. Every 6 months, make it happen and in the interim, practice safe sex. I've never in my life had any worth risking my life. One of my all time favorite quotes - "Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." (William Shakespeare)I'm trying to signify something y'all; as long as it's positive and I'm passionate about it. I've learned that, in all things, it's just so much easier to be nice and kind to others. Karma is a BITCH and I'm trying to put something out there that I would enjoy getting back! :)

Cleanliness is Next to Godliness

I've noticed on a few different occasions that many, many, MANY people that I work with do not observe proper hygiene.  I work in a professional setting with a bunch of overly-educated people wit...

Life is NOT Fair

Through conversations with friends and family, I've found that those that are the most disillusioned with life are the ones that operate under the belief that life is supposed to be fair.  Life i...
