Art. Music. Food (cooking and consuming). Pointless juvenile arguements over the net.
People who owe me money. Interesting people. Funny people. People who want to buy my art. People who can tell the difference between lieing, and shadenfreuder
who I don't want to meet?
dull people, people who can't see beyond the 9-5, people who wear Che t-shirts without bothering to find out who he was, people who attempt to excuse their cuntishness by saying 'I'm just a bad person'.... erm... and armed crackheads
Well, I'm somewhat an evangalizing bore about dubstep and grime at the moment. Its just that they are exciting scenes at the moment. Grime is the new punk, easy, its the sound of a new generation making tunes in their bedrooms talking about whats relivant to them. Going to grime gigs (is that the right word, oh well I'm too old for using the right word) 2005 was just fascinating, watching the kids in the crowd going 'fuck, I could do that, why am I not doing that'. I'm liking JME, Newham Generals, Jammer, Lethal B, Roll Deep, Riko, Tynchy Stryder, Skepta, Wiley, Logan Sama etc etc.
well well ok grime didn't live up to its expectations, but its still interesting
Dubstep, well, again its exciting to go to clubs playing music from a scene which is still in its experimental 'what are the boundaries' underground phase. FWD at plastic people is a bit like dancing underwater the sound systems subbass is so fierce. You have to hear this music out... while you can get a feel for the sound from the various mixes on www.barefiles.com (an amazing site with a comprehensive selection of mixes taped from stations like RinseFM (if you've not heard of that station where the fuck have you been)... it has really to be experienced on a big fuck off soundsystem, as Pinch said 'if your chest aint rattling, it aint happening'. Skream, Digital Mystics, Vex'd, Youngsta, Hatcha, Kode 9, etc etc thank you for reawakening me to BASS
The DMZ dance at the Mass (but it was better at 3rd bass he hehe) is the best club in London. Fact.
Oh and I'm still fond of garage punk, and the whole east london post libertines scene, Bands like The Rakes, Neils Children etc etc etc
and old school breakbeat 'ardcore... but thats just nostalga reallyoh and will allways have a love of northern soul/motown/stax etc and country.
oh and 'ip 'oppers like Klashnekov.. .who is amazing live
Oh and the New Rave stuff, I like obviously (liking old rave and that)... even if its a bit wrong in a sort of 'its like acid house never happened way'... some of them bands are entertaining like Trash Fashion... others seem to be electro-punk bandwagon jumpers...oh you want some sort of 'aren't I hip' list? well I like music because it speaks to me, couldn't give a fuck who likes it, or wether its cool or not.. but I keep returning to early Aphex Twin ('selected ambient works' is my generation's Pet sounds' easy). Bowie (yeah, I know crap fans, but ), The Smiths, Joy Division, The Clash (obviously), Dr Alamantado (spelt wrong, but he is the best dressed chicked in town), Kraftwerk, The Kinks (beautifully crafted english pop written by depressives, whats not to like), Love (r.i.p. Arthur Lee), Gram Parsons, and Neil Young so long as hes kept away from vocoders.
A mix of stuff like Breakfast at Tiffany (coz some of the scenes in there are so beautifully composed), Night of the Hunter, Jim Jarmusch(sp?), ropey old Sci Fi, documentaries,
Don't do heroes, but if I did it would be people that try and make it on their own, rather than using/relieing upon the successes of their parents, and their parents friends...
and Jesus, coz he would be the best person to invite to a party... come 4am when the booze has run out, he would be better than a quick trip to a dodgy local 24 hours offie... erm no.. because he was like the savior of mankind and everything
