Know Thyself!

About Me

I am Icehouse of Groundbreaking Productions. I am a Mixologist. not necessarily a DJ. I will mix everything from poetic versus on cd, to movie monologue on vhs, to you speaking into my voice recorder, to Al Green and Joe Simon on 8 track tape. I have a deep and sincere love for what's known as house- the Institution. I represent on the mindset of Love , Resistance of intolerance, Anti-Bigotry, Revolution, and Peace. when I Play music, it is most likely sprinkled with messages of the things I just mentioned. I consider myself a 1st day house enthusiast - although I do appreciate the new stuff that has kept the music interesting and paving new ground. My days of house music span over 2 decades beginning on the Dance floors of The Devinci Manor, Mr. G's, Muzic box, Warehouse, Power Plant, Playground and other underground venues on The Chicago Scene - My Birthplace and Native Home. I first picked up the Vinyl the Summer of 1977. before the mixing craze had taken root. listening and studying older brothers and sisters harmonize riffs in between performances. "Peg It will come back to you Peg It will come back to you Then the shutter falls You see it all in 3-D It's your favorite foreign movie" /Steely Dan. coupled with an upbringing in Jazz (Thanks Dad)I began my journey. I Studied the Way Ronnie (Hardy) would edit and seam together songs and create new mind boggling sounds that left you emotionally rich and energy broke! I learned to edit using 3 tape decks and a mic mixer. the first time I saw a tape deck with a pitch control on it. I remember thinking "where was that thing when I needed it". I played at various clubs and lounges but never stayed around long enough to enjoy making friends the way I did in my dancing years before "House" had a name. one day I returned to Chicago after living in California to discover the Muzic box had closed. rap had made it's play for mainstream urban music. I had gotten a family so if it wasn't paying considerable pay i wasn't considering it. I sold my Turntables and went the Corporate route. all but turning my back on music. and then one summer day, (Fast-Forward) I think it was 1998, I met a young lady. in the midst of our conversation she told me ... oh, that thing that you're listening to on your headset, that you speak so fondly of.. That House music, oh - it ain't Dead, infact, its Huge! and how old is that tape anyway? (Thanks Korie) I was trapped like a dear in head lights. I think I ran and got some new Technics turntables. when for the first time in 9 years I put those headphones on, it was like Memory lane opened up. thats why to this day, records like Melody, Time waits for no one, Lets get together, it ain't no big thing, I can listen to for hours, Because instead of finding ways to include music in my life. I walked away. I Started asking to borrow records that I had given away so many years ago. upon my inquiring, one relative went to the attic and came back with a crate of my old lps and 12 inch records, gave them to me and said "welcome back lil brother". I began picking up the pieces. along this path is were I have found many of you. thats why I smile a little longer when I meet you for the first time. like seeing an old friend again when I know in reality, its the first time we've met. I'm here to share what I know and learn from the multitude of perspectives that comprise this great and historic Institution known as House. Let's Talk!
