Eric L. Blake:Outside of New York City and Detroit, Memphis has given the world more outstanding jazz artists than any city. Though Memphis' music slowly evolved into a more blues sound, the river city was undoubtedly one of the spawning grounds for jazz. Artists such as George Coleman, Booker Little, Phineas Newborn Jr., Anita Kerr, and Charles Lloyd spearheaded the awakenings of this soulful sound in the bluff. Reviving the spirit of these classic innovators comes a young man whose determination has brought musical prosperity from humble beginnings. Born in Memphis, Eric L. Blake began his career as a trumpeter at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. By the ninth grade he was a professional player. After graduating with honors from Westwood High, Blake attended Grambling State University in Louisiana, where he was pledged into the esteemed membership of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Professional Music Fraternity. He returned home and stretched his musical wings by singing in several Tri- State area bands, including a 4year tour with internationally renowned singer Isaac Hayes. Venturing further still, Blake began writing for a range of local artists from the Barkays to rap stars Eightball and MJG. Eric Blake's demand and prowess in the music industry continues to escalate as his recent achievements prove. He produced the 1989 single "If I Can't Have You" by Jerry Braxton, which was a Billboard Magazine "Hot 100" R&B pick, and the "Life" CD for the contemporary Christian artist Lea. Eric is currently in production for the soundtrack of "Faded", an independently produced movie, and new music for the queen of Beal street Ruby Wilson. Blake's own 2nd CD M-Town People, The follow up to his 1998 release, "It's Goin Down" is an eclectic funk-mix of raw jazz and R&B, tinged with gospel. This solo release is his winning attempt to bring jazz to a new generation of listeners in search of that perfect grove. With his smooth cuts and melodic air, Eric L. Blake may be the note that outlasts all others. For booking call (901) 484-2345 CRUNK Records P.O. Box 404 Arlington, TN 38002
