The Voice Of The Future

About Me

Not since Big Pun's unfortunate passing in 2000 has there emerged a charismatic and skillful MC that could fill the cross-cultural void left by this thunderous poet. Enter Romello Scuggz, a spit boxer lyricist whose progressive street stories will devastatingly appeal to hip hop aficionados craving intricate rhyme styles that simultaneously spark your dome as well as your swagger. Born and bred in New York City's Washington Heights community, Scuggz grew up living the often-treacherous life, the type that offers impulsive and sometimes fatal fame. As a deterrent his family shipped him to Miami's South Beach, where during the mid 90s an emerging hip hop scene earned Scuggz his first round stripes. Here, he connected with the now famous turntablist, DJ Craze, who upon hearing Scuggz' tenacious flow, encouraged him to battle his way out of the Miami scene. After several victorious cash-prized battles, Scuggz began thinking seriously about his prospects. "At first it was a hobby, but at the battles I realized that people were into my verses and checking for me every time my name appeared on a flyerthat was probably my defining moment as an MC." Soon thereafter, Scuggz began making his rounds on the NY-Miami underground mix-tape circuit. Spraying jewels on mix-tapes by the likes of DJ Epps and Battlecat, Scuggz began developing his Dominican identity, appealing more and more to a disgruntled Latino community still waiting for that MC who could rep lyrically without compromising his Latin roots. "For mad years, Latinos felt that they had to sound and look black in order to get recognized, frontin' like they don't speak Spanish or eat platanos...I'm trying to instill some pride up in here, but with a positive message." But do not let this fool you. In keeping true to his competitive roots and street dwellings, Scuggz will always come through with the grind, first and foremost. In a universe filled with nursery rhymes dependent on one-dimensional punch lines, there just might be room for this thoroughbred MC. Early signs predict continuous success. At the present time, there are deals in the work that involve production credits by DJ Khalil (Soul Assasins and Self Scientific - LA, CA), Authentic Productions (Shadyville), Wize (Major Players), and J-Thrilz (Def Con). "I don't know if I fit into any one category in hip hop, that's why I'm down to work with different heads and always try new things." And perhaps this is the new age attitude needed as an alternative to the formulaic sounds that mark today's scene. "I'm here to represent my peoples stories by making powerful music.".. width="425" height="350" ...... width="425" height="350" MELLY SCUGGZ - FINALLY d@ VIDEO!!
