I am here for Friends

About Me

my transitional period has ended and now i miss it. chaos keeps me awake and motivated, and then i sleep better at night, not tossing and turning in the heat. i'm creating change by redecorating. i really love cupcakes. i hate the dentist and everything about it. i'm still working on constructing the perfect bed. i have two kitty cats that were originally named jack and jill (one name changed when i swooped them up). i make the worlds best-ever banana bread, and i've passed the recipe around, so there are some other people out there who are also making banana bread that's better than ever- you know who you all are...i once got to lay on a real bear-skin rug and it truly was unforgettable. i've written a book, i swear. i love white paws. i desperately need to recover my bike from the laundry room of one of my old buildings. i don't like critics, and am working on becoming less of one myself. i really like water, drinking a lot of it. i like flowers- dried or fresh, sweet smelling or even dusty. i wish i had money to travel the world- and the time to do it.

My Interests

open windows, strong coffee, yellow, snowstorms, steak tacos, music that sounds better the louder it gets, lake shore drive, succulents- especially very large jade plants, lights on in highrises at night, blithewood gardens (worth mentioning twice), cats that have small parts, biking beside lake michigan (and jumping in when it gets too hot- that's what the ladders are for), christmas time, road trips, preschoolers with big smiles, penguins, fireplaces and candles, eucalyptus, national geographics, the history of chicago, jumping into deep water, lately americanos (iced), expensive candles that i can't afford, but like to smell lots of times in the store, chandeliers, mini silverware, amber in all forms, glitter, fingerpainting, modge podge, and that stuff, the light that comes in my bedroom window at 9am, fans, the smell of clean laundry, knitting scarves (and one blanket which i will knit for the rest of my life), things from my grandma's kitchen, the outer banks, riding shotgun while playing dj, sitting down to start a new book (the best ever)...

I'd like to meet:

still, madonna in the eighties for one night in washington square park with two flasks of whiskey in paper bags and one full pack of european cigarettes. someone who can teach me to dive. i mean really, confindently teach me to drop my inhibitions and go head first, instead of a bellyflop. movers and shakers, who emit motivation and craziness. i miss the mountains of upstate new york. more people who appreciate the blithewood gardens...

Music:

i have gone through many phases, and looking back, i still like most of it...past and present...ella and louis, neutral milk hotel, bob of course, old outkast, manu chao, jayz, cat power, emilie simon, bill withers, portishead, slick rick, elliot smith, stevie, talking heads, common, dylan, radiohead, miles, bjork, that african mix a nice boy gave me, and of course le fabuleux destin d'amelie poulain...

Movies:

i have strange movie taste: i hated moulin rouge cause it overstimulated my senses, but i really like movies like oceans 11- movies where i have to gasp out loud and sometimes even scream, and where the suspense almost strangles me and i couldn't guess the ending if i tried. also i love all those beautiful action movies like Hero, even though they are pretty overstimulating too- especially Baraka. harold and maude. woody allen too.

Television:

i have a thing for late nite television shows, but they usually end up boring me...and the cosby show, but it never bores me. oh yeah, dog the bounty hunter is my new favorite-- if you like cops, with some added glam, try this one out! or intervention (but sometimes i have to cover my eyes). planet earth.

Books:

i like many, particularly memoirs of disturbing and absurd authors and authoresses...i like the sob stories, and the fantastical, but i have to break it up every few with something sound, something solid, something that grounds me in some way...i try not to see the movie before i read the book, but then i quickly realize that every movie seems to be based on a book. i love tom robbins, sedaris, just finished memoirs of a geisha, arundhati roy, burroughs, i love reading about revolutionaries, though i get lost in the actual revolutions, rumi...i like to read numerous books at a time- right now a biography of jane addams (my imaginary boss), and the unbearable lightness of being.i hate glamorama and love isabel allende. truman capote is a genius of clarity. books that teach me sign language- with pictures.

Heroes:

my dad. and my lady la cause she's the girliest girl around, and she knows it! teachers that inspire.
