My friends, Cats, Writing, Scooters -the new Honda Helix, Cultural studies and various Spiritual beliefs, the Space program - (did you hear about the Stardust program - major cool technology), and watching favorite tv shows and classic movies.
Author Tony Hillerman, actresses Isabella Rosellini (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1285/is_n2_v26/a i_18082731) - here's a link to an interview with her that shows why I admire her), Maureen O'Hara, Doris Day, and Dame Judith Dench, my grandfathers and great-grandparents, Iditarod winner Susan Butcher, Teddy Roosevelt, actress Melissa Gilbert, and other historical figures Annie Oakley, Joan of Arc and the sisters Mary and Martha from the Bible. As mentioned earlier in this list, I would love to have met Iditarod winner Susan Butcher - amazing, inspiring woman. Sadly, she died August 5, 2006 after enduring a long battle for which her lifestyle choices enabled her to fight longer than most might have. Here is a short clip to give you a picture of the kind of person she was: http://alaska.org/videos/susan_butcher.html?susan_butcher_me dFL8.flvhttp://video.msn.com/v/us/v.htm?g=6BE6D804-FE80-43C1 -8482-1FE53F552421,A7DA4B7F-B397-4285-B9DC-9E3968541EBC,68CE 605F-D95D-4527-8381-1B52F64FEFC7&t=s7&f=06/64&p= hotvideo_viralvideos&fg=>1=8816
All music is fascinating. My personal collection contains samples from all around the world. I grew up with influences of 70s radio, christian rock, the Sound of Music and Lawrence Welk every Saturday afternoon so what do you expect?! "To each his own drummer" ;0)
Escapist is key: Love westerns, sci-fi, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, - The Santa Clause - I think that classifies as Fantasy comedy! Love old classics with Fred Astaire, Dean Martin and all those classy, glamorous stars. Animation movies are fascinating: Finding Nemo (excellent), Madagascar - (actually made me laugh, that's an accomplishment), and the Alladin movie was fun - and of course, Shrek! Then there's romance movies too: "Somewhere in Time" and "The Time Machine" . Cannot leave out classics like "Casablanca", Grant & Hepburn, Doris Day & Rock Hudson and Tom Hanks with Meg Ryan. And mysteries most definitely: Loved DOA (the original was perfect but I love Dennis Quaid), love Sherlock Holmes and Hercules Poirot. I could go on forever about the movies but I'll just list two more of my favs: Indiana Jones movies and anything with Johnny Depp. There!
Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Medium, 4400, the new Dr. Who series (!), NCIS, Lost, Charmed, Friends reruns, Reba, The Closer and the wonderful movies on AMC and TCM. Yes, I know....I'm an escapist. More than one teacher told me to stop daydreaming in class!
Favorite authors: Tony Hillerman, Jack London, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Louis L'Amour, Frank Peretti, Bill Bryson. I like to read period - including science, politics and intrigue as well as action / adventure. Biographies are occasionally good reading. Haven't been able to forget two I did book reports on in high school: I am Third by Gale Sayer. He was a football player with Chicago Bears - this is the other side of the story Brian's Song. And the other was Sammy Davis, Jr.'s autobiography. Being raised in the Mississippi Delta, I found this book to be very enlightening and as a fan of the entertainer, it was very interesting to learn about his early years in the business. As for human interest, it's a testimony to discipline, perserverance and love. I have mountains of books in my house. There's not enough space here but would love to chat should anyone out there care to.
