About Me

Ballllin! PhatPimpClothing.com Gordon was born in Milwaukee, Wis. and played youth soccer with the Milwaukee Simba SC from 1999 -2007. During his freshmen year at Milwaukee Vincent high school, Gordon set the record for most goals scored in a single Milwaukee public schools game by scoring 10 goals against Milwaukee Washington.Soccer's double-digit dynamoVincent newcomer has near-record gameBy BOB GOSMANSpecial to the Journal SentinelPosted: Sept. 26, 2004 Tyrone Gordon, a freshmen soccer star at Milwaukee Vincent, can remember the specifics of only the first goal and the last goal he scored in the Vikings' 10-3 victory over Milwaukee Washington on Sept. 18. Unlike a witness whose memory becomes suspiciously weak before a grand jury, Gordon's lack of recall can be excused. When one player scores 10 times in one soccer match, it is reasonable to expect that the goals would seem to blend together.Gordon's 10-goal performance puts him in rarefied company. He is now in an 11-way tie for fourth place on the all-time list for number of goals scored in a match, according to the 2002 National High School Sports Record Book. California high school soccer players Scott Viands and Marcos Arreola each scored 12 goals in a match in 1987 and 1980, respectively, to lead the list.Washington coach Glen Fink said even putting three players on Gordon could not stop him from finding the back of the net."He was burning all three of our guys," Fink said. "We didn't have sweepers or fullbacks that were as strong as he is."Added Vincent coach Rich DePalma: "Even the referees were amazed by (Gordon). He was that much better than anybody else on the field."It should be noted that neither Vincent (2-9) nor Washington (1-4) is a soccer power. Gordon would not likely score 10 goals against a more highly regarded side such as Milwaukee Marquette or Homestead. However, Tommy Alioto, who coached Gordon this summer on the Milwaukee Rampage's U-17 team in the Super-Y League, said Gordon's ability would make him a star on any high school team."He's probably the biggest potential in the state," Alioto said. "He's probably the fastest forward in the state. He has unbelievable speed and quickness and a knack for scoring goals."Soccer has always been Gordon's sport of choice. His mother, Celeste Gordon, likes to tell a story about the time Tyrone's uncle gave his 4-year old nephew a basketball as a present."He put it on the ground and kicked it," Celeste said. "We knew at that time he was going to be a soccer player."Although this is Gordon's first year playing for Vincent, he has always participated in club soccer. The only time he considered giving up the sport was his freshman year, when his club coach, Camarillo Santos, died.Enter Gordon's cousin, Demetrius White. White, who moved in with the Gordon family this summer and is a highly regarded player at Riverside. After Santos died, White convinced his cousin not to quit the sport.Alioto credits Jimmy Banks, White and Gordon's current club coach, for helping develop the cousins into top-notch prospects. The cousins played an integral role on Alioto's U-17 Rampage team that made it to the national tournament over the summer."What I received this summer was a gift," Alioto said of the two players. The Vincent soccer program also must have felt like it was Christmas when Gordon chose to play high school soccer for the first time. Gordon said he made his decision because he believes the Vincent players are now taking the sport more seriously than in years past.Gordon has scored 32 of the Vikings' 34 goals this season. He is the team's unquestioned leader, although he did let down his teammates Monday when he picked up his first cards of the season (a yellow and a red) for language and arguing with the referee in a 7-3 loss to Pulaski. The Vikings were leading at the time, 3-2."I've (apologized) to my teammates," he said, "and I'm not going to let that happen again."Even if he doesn't have another 10-goal match, Gordon gives the Vikings the star power they have been lacking."He's our Michael Jordan," DePalma said. "He brings our level of play up."

CINCINNATI--On an evening when severe thunderstorms rolled into the Greater Cincinnati area, the Minnesota Thunder rolled into the Xavier University Soccer Complex and scored the lone goal in a weather-shortened exhibition match against the Cincinnati Kings. The Thunder, from the First Division of the United Soccer Leagues, scored 15:20 into the first half on a goal by Nathan Knox, with the assist by Tyrone Gordon. The Kings managed four shots on goal to Minnesota's one before lighting around the Xavier University campus forced the game to be called just before the end of the first half. "We played great in our defensive half," said Coach Jon Pickup. "The ball just didn't bounce our way on the lone goal. On the offensive end, we ran into the same trouble, missing some easy shots in front. But we held our own against First Division competition." The game was a fundraiser for the parents of Michael Weidner of St. Bernard, a 10-year old soccer player who died in January. The Kings play another exhibition match Saturday afternoon at Town & Country against Northern Kentucky University before opening regular season Second Division play on the road Friday, April 21 against last year's league champion, the Charlotte Eagles. and Saturday, April 22 against the Richmond Kickers
