Kongatron is the name of the project where Hugo Duran (Mexico City, 1975) mixes tropical music like cumbia, salsa reggaeton or boogaloo with electronica: IDM, D&B and techno.
The "Kong-a-tron" concept came from "kong" his longatime nickname, to "konga" because his tropical influences, the "tron" came as a reference of technology, of nostalgia and childhood. Just like glimpse the future full of devices like in "the supersonocs" cartoon.
Hugo Duran has played around Mexico and Europe in festivals such as Mutek, Panoramico, Experimenta, La fete de la musique, among many others and his work has been aclaimed by peps like Asian Dub Foundation or the Rockers Hi Fi.
