About Me

electroboy produces electronic trash-pop with simple, cheeky content. Says Pascal Blum (music critic for intro et al): 'electroboy is do-it-yourself-electro with high pop-appeal and great sing-along chorus. It is electronic pop music reclaiming sloganising from logic-botches. electroboy knows his punk and new german wave, making both himself. This music has a message, even though electroboy doesn't want to have one. These are at once enthusiastic and angry compositions packed into simple yet poetic electro songs by a one-man-band.'
electroboy.deSpring 06, electroboy has also been on live-tour. He was accompagnied by a motley-crew of 4 flashy freaks in sporty astronaut suits: An Indian dancer, a masked artist, a bling-bling girl from Sweden and Miss Hungary herself. Plus, as special bonus, a video animation produced exclusively for the show by SalzDerHelden from Munich. The press wrote: 'At last a real electro show' (Le Matin bleu) and 'stunning performance' (20min).

Behind electroboy stands young Florian Burkhardt from Zurich, a guy with ideas and visions. Florian is known to be a highly offensive player, realising his visions intensively and without compromise, as his biography testifies:
After graduating as a primary-teacher in a catholic boarding school, Florian sets out to conquer the world. He moves to the mountains, becomes a professional snowboarder, founds the first Swiss snowboard magazine which is also soon to run the highest circulation in German speaking Europe. Florian wants to broaden his horizons, relocates to Los Angeles, where he soon finds himself in the centre of the acting scene. A feature in a film magazine results in first modeling jobs. Florian makes a visit to Milan, not knowing he is never to return to Los Angeles. Instead, an unexpected modeling career awaits him in Milan. He becomes Newcomer of the Year, working for labels such as Prada, Gucci, and Dolce&Gabbana. Soon, his agents can land him in New York where he is booked by photographers such as David LaChapelle and Albert Watson. A life in limousines, planes and hotels ensues. Tokyo, Paris, London. And back to Zurich again because he feels lost in the whole wide world.

Florian settles down, studying Multimedia Design. After working for advertising and internet agencies, he sets up his own film production company. Florian is honoured with several Art Director's Club-awards. After a break, Florian decides all he wants is drift through life like the protagonist in Hesse's Siddhartha. He retires from the scene, writes the book 'STOP' (ISBN 3-937343-63-6) only to resurface one day as electroboy. In other words:
In 2004, in true out-of-nowhere fashion, Florian shakes up Zurich' s party scene, with a string of parties and festivals gracing his name (ie at Moods, Dachkantine and Rohstofflager club). Within a year, the name electroboy becomes synonymous with catchy electronic music in Switzerland. Collaborations with national and international artists (musicians, graphic and visual artists, art collectives) follow. In 2005, electroboy launches the first Swiss Electronic Music Awards (SEMA), deciding to spend more time on a platform for electronic music. As a result, kommerz, a free print magazine (available in Zurich and other cities) and web portal for electronic music, comes into being. Moving swiftly from subculture to commercial focus, electroboy becomes a brand - complete with characteristic tongue-in-cheek smugness.

Music has aways been important to Florian. He took guitar-lessons for twelve years, studied vocal arts at music academy, was a member in various band formations and performed a wide range of solo-concerts (vocals and guitar). In Summer 2005, Florian begins producing electronic music. As a party organiser, he becomes aware provocative ideas are often missing in electronic music. Particularly in Zurich, where the scene tends to specialise in perfectioning sounds, shying away from building up an image. electroboy is an emotional persona, who shows less respect, trying not to fear embarrassing moments. All in favour of a simple, yet colourful and lively world which is sometimes absent in electronic music.
