Kyla Graves is a twenty three year old Burlington based singer/songwriter who has captivated audiences and won fans throughout her native Vermont for years, and is now poised to share her ear-pleasing gifts with the entire world. Her first album, Loving Tree, is a seamless tapestry of sounds that signals the arrival of a vital new artist with a style all her own and a very bright future. Experiencing Kyla’s music, for the first or the hundredth time, is not something a person easily forgets. One listen to her luscious, sultry vocals, vibrant, laid back guitar playing and instantly memorable melodies and its not hard to see why. Her songs are intimate self-portraits, poignant and poetic lessons on love and life which address universal themes that resonate within each of us, all the while maintaining a toe-tapping, head-nodding groove. They make an immediate impact, yet also possess the ability to linger in mind long after the last note has faded away. Simply put, Kyla Graves writes outstanding songs. And when she performs them, her magnetic presence gives each one an epic, classic vibe, and convinces every listener she wrote it and is singing it just for them. The five songs on Loving Tree are the culminating fruits of a lifetime of loving labor in the crafts of singing and songwriting. Kyla’s love for music found its perfect outlet at a young age, when she started playing guitar in the sixth grade. She began writing and singing her own songs almost immediately, and soon showed the promise of things to come when, at just fourteen years old, she performed at her high school talent show backed by a full band of very accomplished local musicians, all of whom were adults. Kyla’s precocious abilities followed her to college, helping her to become the most prolific performer in the history of the University of Vermont. While attending school, Kyla played dozens of shows for thousands of delighted listeners and shared the stage with such regionally and nationally renown artists as Matt Nathanson, Teitur, Tina Dico of Zero7, Mieka Pauley, Gregory Douglass, Flora Reed, as well as local musicians such as The Gordon Stone Band, Lowell Thompson, Brent Hughes, to name just a few. In addition to the school circuit, Kyla has played at nearly every venue in and around Burlington, including Nectar’s, Higher Ground, 1/2 Lounge, Metronome, Parima Acoustic Lounge, The Lincoln Inn, Radio Bean, Monkey House and many others.Though her continual local playing has helped Kyla attract and keep plenty of loyal friends and fans throughout the area, she is eager to find greener, more expansive musical pastures. With Loving Tree, Kyla has certainly taken a giant step in the right direction. Producer and engineer Jared Slomoff, best known for his work with Mike Gordon of Phish, has captured the intimacy and energy of Kyla’s live set and brought each of her carefully crafted tracks to life with a master’s touch. The result of their collaborative studio efforts is a brilliant bit of music, seventeen minutes and nineteen seconds of uninterrupted aural pleasure. The material is diverse and covers a full range of emotions and experiences, painting a vivid, colorful soundscape and chronicling the triumphs and tragedies of a woman and an artist for whom not even the sky is the limit.
