About Me
Bluesman, Ken Sorensen, A.K.A. Stringbean Wheeler, is a veteran of the Jersey Shore/New York City Blues scene. Entertaining folks at venues as diverse as the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, B.B. King Blues Club in New York, the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ, the Ragin' Cajun in Belmar and outdoor biker rallies, Stringbean is comfortable with an audience. He is a regular performer at the Clearwater Festival in Asbury Park, has played on boat cruises, in parking garages, at NYC street fairs and at book stores. He is always looking for new and different places to play.
Whether your passion is blues, funk, reggae or classic country, you'll find a smattering of all four genres at a typical performance by Ken "Stringbean" Sorensen and his band, the Stalkers. Aside from Sorensen on vocals, harmonica and guitar, the Stalkers include Sonny Kenn on guitar, Dave Meyers on bass and Victor Bayers on drums.
Stringbean has opened for B.B. King, James Cotton and Dickie Betts. He has played with the members of Blues Travelers, the Spin Doctors and with Joan Osborn and Rob Waserman. He often sits in with Billy Hector, Sonny Kenn and Castel Brown, but his heart lies in his humble acoustic ensemble. So whether it's an outdoor jazz/blues festival, a smokey blues bar, a quiet coffee house or a backyard BBQ, give him a call...he will be happy to play.
