WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT GREENLAND:
"Another Nashville Band Makes Headlines"
"Nashvillians watching Good Morning America today were likely surprised to see local quartet [actually quintet] Greenland performing on the show. Greenland, a relatively unknown band in Nashville's booming underground music scene, made it on the show by winning in the best song category in the YouTube Underground contest conducted in early October by Good Morning America, Cingular Wireless and, of course, YouTube.
"In the best song category, [Alex] Pastavas ... music supervisor for Grey's Anatomy and The OC and a guru of discovering undiscovered talent ... chose Greenland's 'The Way It Is,' a catchy pop song that, despite a few rough edges, still manages to get lodged in one's head. This is GreenLand's second competition this year and their second victory—their first came at The Muse's Battle of the Bands contest earlier this summer."

"Listen to 'The Way It Is' from Nashville band Greenland's self-titled EP, and you won't be surprised that the track was awarded Best Song in a recent YouTube Underground video contest."
-Birmingham Magazine - January 2007
"Although they only formed last January ... Nashville locals Greenland have already established a rather impressive following from Lexington, Va., to Knoxville and, of course, here in Nashville. They have a quintessentially poppy sound that resonates with listeners who appreciate an unusual blend of balladry and existential musings on 'Rip Van Winkle.' Underneath the wispy composition of tunes like 'The Way It Is,' Greenland confronts the angst-ridden conscience of one whose life is without progress: 'I never understood why I have always backed down,' vocalist Evan James wails before concluding, 'People never change, that’s the way it is.' Yet according to James and those who recently crowned Greenland champion of The Muse’s Battle of the Bands earlier this month, the quintet is evolving."
-Dave Rudolph - Nashville Scene - July 20, 2006
"['The Way It Is'] blends a sturdy bass line with both ‘70s and ‘90s guitar voicings and influences, plus a slashing lead vocal that nicely amplifies the tune’s message that any substantive social change must come through action rather than talk.
"But it’s hardly some sort of super-serious topical work. The singing and musical backing are loose and joyous, with the video for the tune echoing that sensibility through the use of interesting animation and figures ranging from animal figurines to a quick shot of Superman."
