Romo!

About Me

I'm Amy, these days better known as Joanie Rollmoan of the Arch Rival Rollergirls. Those who I know and love in derby affectionately call me Romo.
When I was in junior high I used to show off for girls by skating backwards and playing air guitar at the roller rink. After high school I actually learned how to play guitar, was in a number of bands including Idgie and Visibility Troop, and was hugely into the riot grrrl and queerpunk music scene. Later derby came along and I became a rockstar on skates. Now I'm back to rockin' rinks and breakin' hearts once again.
Season 3 of local derby is underway at All American Sports Mall. Next bout is June 14. My team (M-80s)'s next bout is July 5th! In 2007 the M-80s were the league champs! I'm also on our travel team which plays teams from other cities as often as we can, including June 7th when we go to Ft. Wayne!
I've pretty much made derby my priority for the last 3 years, serving as the league's Publicity Chair, a member of the Board of Directors, WFTDA rep and "Newbie Coach" and member of the league's Coaching Committee. When I'm not skating I enjoy drinking whiskey and spending time with one wonderful redheaded jeerleader. I hit people.
When people hit me, they fall down.
I'm opinionated and have been known to challenge the status quo. I also try to be empathetic and sometimes keep myself awake at night trying to work out the problems of the world in my head. I value loyalty, honesty, humor, and real conversation. I want to hear about your life & your goals, but you'll have to get me to stop talking about derby first. Try changing the subject and talking about less serious topics, like politics. Video of me taking out a fan in Arkansas in the last jam of the game! (watch the back of the track, I am the pivot)

M-80s 2007 Champs, Rookie Draft Approaches

Even though the M-80s (3-1) beat the Smashinistas (2-2) in October, we didn't take anything for granted going into this bout. The Smashies were the only team we lost to this season back in July, beati...
