About Me
The Horrids began in 2003 with singer Pat Dirvin, drummer Mike Arturi, and guitarist Patrick Goray. During their beginnings they played many small shows such as backyards and park district events, even with the lack of a bass player they had a solid fan following. After searching and auditioning several bass players they decided on Chris Kasper to fill the position. With a lineup set for the first time, it was time to begin writing and recording original material. A majority of their music started with covers of their most influential bands; The Misfits, AFI, and The Ramones. After being satisfied with enough original material, they went into the studio torecord their first full length album. This was recorded by Bill at the Jamm Room in Lisle, IL. The Horrids began their CD selling period with 500 CDs, but after only a couple months they were all gone to fans. After the CDs started to circulate the local underground scene, The Horrids soon found themselves having a much larger fan base then expected. After becoming more exposed, The Horrids began playing bigger shows at prestigious venues such as The Wheaton Grand Theater, Congress Theater, Fireside Bowl, Stage 83, Champ’s Rock Room, Clearwater Theater, and The Note; where they were constantly treated to large responsive crowds of fans. At these shows they performed with other popular groups such as; SKANK, The Infected, Frantic, Rotten Fruits, JuiceHead, as well as out of state bands such as Chaotic Alliance, The Scarred, Unit 21, and The Outlaws. As band mates, and best friends Pat, Mike, Dirvin, and Kasper have grown both musically and creatively. This can be seen at every show and practice with their intense live performance and demeanor towards each other on and off the stage. This was apparent at the Glenbard East Battle of the Bands in 2007 where they were chosen as the winners out of over 25 bands performing. This gained them recognition on more of a “Pop Culture†scene in the west suburban Chicagoland area.
Currently the band is in the process of putting the finishing touches on their newest 14 track album. This album will be available in the near future and hopefully will continue to exponentially increase their popularity and keep their fan base growing.
Having fans ranging in age from 5 to 85 they are not at a loss for places to play. Whether it is at a huge venue on Lawrence Ave in Chicago, or a small dive bar in the lowliest corner of the town, they will always have a group of fans there to support them and have them continue to succeed at doing what they love to do, which is make music that is energetic, fun, and surprisingly catchy.
