About Me

The secret is out & the wait is over. Big-Blunt a.k.a the "Maestro" has finally hit the streets. MC/musician, songwiter/producer, this preview of his upcomming EP is just a taste of what the game's been missin'. U be the judePuuuuuullllll Uuuuuuuuuuuup...................Pull it pull it pull it...........................Aight ya'll that was over a year & sum change ago so as we fast forward to present day I'd like 2 step in and personaly introduce myself to this Myspace community. Big Blunt da Maestro, a Brooklyn born LA based "MC/Musician from the 1st Class Division". Guess the best way to describe me is like a hybrid of talents. Where else U gonna find a bass player, gutarist, producer & songwriter, all rolled up into one rapper??? I can produce say an R&B track for example, write a song to it, and spit the hot 16. Who fuckin' wit dat??? Yeah of course Wycleff, but I can't think of too many others. Anyway B/4 I go any further let me 1st of all just give thanks & big-ups to all the good folks over the past year who came thru my page to show luv 4 the music. Made a few friends & fans along the way so it's all good. I'll defintely be posting all nu tracks and pimpin out the page a lil' sumthin' so don't trip. Been busy workin on the Big Blunt Mixtape Khronicals, we tryin to drop that summer 07'. We also got that Blunt's Guitar & B. Compilation. That's a project I been workin on 4 a while now, where I just come up with guitar oriented progressions, put some knockin' beats on em, and write songs 2 em'. That's gonna feature some great up & comming talent like Alexx Daye (a former background vocalist for Patti LaBelle who's working on her own CD right now), and street R&B Soul artist Lo Diggs reppin' Chi-Town. I'm tryin' 2 finish that by the end of year so any female or male vocalist lookin' 2 colab on a tight project, definitely get @ me. So let's get on with this history lesson shall we.......................................................... ........................................... I been married to this music for about as long as I can remember. Started out as a bass player in & out of studios, playin live shows & all that. Then started playin other instruments and eventually stared writing and producing. Soon after that I was approached by a friend who was in a band I used to work with. He was this white cat who could actually rap and along with this other black dude was like a black & white rap duo. But he wanted me to put a live band around it. I was like damn dude, that sounded like the craziest idea I ever heard. That's really what I thought @ the time. But that particualr project actually became the vehicle I used to fully understand, feel, & embrace Hip-Hop, from a musician's perspective. So we formed the Word Peace Posse, a full band w/horns, keys, guitars the whole 9, fronted by 2 MC's. I was the musical director and played rythmn guitar 4 the band playing countless college shows up & down the state, frat parties, and beach area bars. We even did some opening dates w/Fishbone & KRS 1. It wasn't too long though B/4 I showed intrest in pickin up the mic and wrote my 1st rhyme which actually rivaled the 2 existing rappers, immedieately earning me a front line position as the group's 3rd MC. This point served as the "Changing of the Guard' (so to speak) for my career, as I made the transition from musician, to Big Blunt the MC. So after the band split I linked up w/Def Jeff & Kenyatta who were both artists signed to Delicious Vinyl at the time. I put a band together for Def Jeff and worked with the Soul Bros. as well. Durring that time Jeff was doing some producing and slid me a few sessions w/Boss who was signed to Def Jam, & also Hip-Hop pioneers Nice & Smoove. Then I paired up w/Kenyatta after he left Deliciuos to join his Soul Flower project. Kenyatta was a very unique soul singer who would sing over classic Hip-Hop breaks, and I was his MC. We shoped it for a while but never got anywhere with it. So from that point ya man had 2 go 4 dolo. So I started doing demos for the 1st time as a solo artist, with no group or crew behind me. It was kinda scary at first but I eventually got my swag then by 94' I met Jaztone, one of the illest producers (known & unknown) in the game period. And together we made some great music through the years and have always been able to bounce ideas off each other and just maintained the highest level of respect for one another, in & out of the studio to this day. Now it was also durring this time when I started playing bass for bands in the local LA Reggae circuit. I always had a good feel for Reggae and I definitely loved it, so consequently that's how I was eatin' (still am) while in persuit of that ever ellusive record deal. So me & Tone did about 3 or 4 demos together till about 97' then the last one got thu the chain to an assitant of a major record exec. (who's name I can't seem 2 remember). Anyway, said assitant knew this A&R cat named Gary Harris, who somehow got his hands on my demo and contacted me. He told me a lot of folks was feelin' my music, and he thought he could help me get a record deal. Harris was very industry savvy and had mad connects, and was actually very instrumental in the signing of D'Angelo's 1st record deal. So he sets up a meeting with the then president of EMI Records NYC, flies me out for 3 days for a face 2 face with label heads, but by the 3rd day it was brought to my attention that the label decided to pass on Big Blunt. Naturally disappointed, I can remember comming home and everybody elese being even more disappoined than I was. So I just got up, shook that shit off, and contemplated my next move which would ultimately result in Blunt hanging up the mic 4 a while, (about a cool 5 yrs to be exact.) Ended up putting most of my concentration on playing these local Reggae gigs. I joined the Detour Posse band, a self contained unit that eventually became know as a backing band for Reggae artist who came thru town from Jamaica and need a band to perform shows with. Shinehead, Sean Paul, Spragga Benz, Jr."One Blood" Ried, Red Rat, Lady Saw, Wayne Wonder, Mad Cobra, Mr. Vegas, Cecille, Bushman, Gentleman, and many others, we backed & toured w/them all. The one artist whom we work the most consistantly with however has been living Reggae music legend Barrington Levy. I've toured the world Europe, Canada, US, & Carribean w/Levy for over 8 yrs. now, and although that seems like a great gig that's basically all it is, just another gig. At the end of the day I'm just limiting my potential to backing artists. And there really ain't no future in that, not for me anyway. So about 2 yrs ago I got a call from Jaztone who I still kept in touch with and was still doing music. He told me that his brother was making and independent film and that he (who was actually one my biggest fans when we were doing the early Blunt demos) personally requested a few submissions for his film. This abruptly ended my retirement and prompted a swift comeback. See durring those 5 yrs off I litterally wrote nothing that whole entire time. So I started slow and submitted about 3 for the film. Then did a few more and before I knew it I had about 10 songs. So I'm like damn, here I go again with this shit. lol But it's all good now cause the game done changed so much that the chips are staked in my favor. The difference is now I'm on my indy grind so I dictate my own success. I'm finally gonna put out my own CD, my own way, and sling them shits out the trunk of my Camry, and see what them streets is talkin' bout. Streets ain't feelin' U, yo shit just ain't poppin', real talk. So I'm a just stay on my grizy and make this shit do what it do ya dig. And like I said @ the top look out for the new joints I'll be posting on my page from the Big Blunt Mixtape Khronicals. And please leave some comments and let me know what ya'll feelin'. This grind don't get no easier but it's always nice to know my Myspace family got my back on the luv & support. Also to all the Reggae fans I'll still be out touring spring & summer so be sure to check the calendar for Barrington Levy show dates comming thru your town. Come on thru & give ya man a shout ya heard. Much luv, Stay Blunted ya'll. Peace.
