SEX PANTHER started as a joke late 2005. We started spending way too much time together and the result was complete chaos AND a real band.
2006 has seen us develop from being a gang of close friends with a band for kicks, to become a gang of even closer friends (nothing is sacred anymore) with an explosive increase in gigs and interest, local and beyond. MAMMOTH!
In an electrified first 12 months we released our 'Killer Pink' EP (Nov '06), played with some grrreat bands (incl. Guitar Wolf, Love Is All, Wolf & Cub, An Albatross, Batrider, ECSR, Jamie T.), got nominated for two Western Australia Music Awards (best female vocalist/most popular single/EP), London's Rough Trade Records became our online retailer, barely survived a whirlwind UK tour which included two spots at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton and ended with a sick bass-player down and our guitarist being rushed off stage to hospital in Amsterdam, minus her shoes...returning home from all that chaos to embark on our first regional WA tour with Grinspoon and and 8,000km of white line fever.
Our filmclip for 'Dropkick Your Lover' recently won a WA Screen Award (Best Music Video Production) and we played the 2008 Perth Big Day Out Festival. There's also a growing number of 'honorary pantherettes' immortalized by a home-made tattoo (bitchin'!)
...and now we've even got a sound magician called Bones!
It's like a unrelenting rollercoaster ride through a trashy world of dead flamingo's, silver daggers, toothless showgirls, champagne flutes filled with beer, trailerpark clothes lines, goonbag cowboys, diamond studded road cases, prettyboy elvis meets shirley temple on an african safari and we're all holding on for our precious souls!
