PM NEWS: 02/09/2008
Part "Where the fuck did these guys come from?!?", and part "Please don't piss off our sponsors!!", Project Mayhem took out the State's richest band competition: Next Big Thing 2008 with style and grace not seen since John Butler took it out ten years previously.
And words cannot express the extent to which they smelled a million times better than Fremantle's favourite millionaire. It's a telling prediction for the future.
In any case, this radness has been compounded this week with a big-arse show at the Hydey Backroom, and a great big fuck-off performance at Hyper Fest for the kids, alongside Shihad and shit.
Next weekend sees the launch of the much anticipated ...Go Gonzo CD, the so-called "difficult second EP" which is being released in grandiose style aboard the Paddle Steamer Decoy.
That's right, Project Mayhem have hired out the local paddle steamer, are putting $4000 on the bar, and are getting their contemporaries fucking annihilated. In usual style, it's been a self-funded DIY process. Needless to say, the members of Project Mayhem are sleep deprived.
But it doesn't end there. With two more CDs in the pipeline, as well as a video clip, spots at the WAMI festival and next year's Big Day Out already confirmed, the next six months are going to be a non-stop juggernaut.
No Rest For The Wicked indeed...

THE BAND SAYS:
Storming out of the Perth City Underground in May 2007 with their No Rest For The Wicked masterpiece EP, these four young troublemakers from the Boom Town have never looked back. Dispensing their demented “Gonzo Rock†gospel, the band mix punk rock’n’roll with a stoned groove and a furious determination that leaves lesser bands floundering—both on and off the stage.
Project Mayhem’s follow-up …Go Gonzo! is sure to turn a few heads when it is launched aboard the Paddle Steamer Decoy in September. Spearheaded by songs like “Boom Town Rocksâ€, “The Devil’s Advocateâ€, and “Party Town W.A.â€; the five track EP is peppered with tall tales of life in the seemy underbelly of Western Australia. True to the “Gonzo†spirit they adopted along the way, Project Mayhem take you where the cameras don’t go, into the heart and soul of the world that surrounds them.
Manic, sometimes angry, yet strangely catchy vocals compliment a rock’n’roll attack; soulful lead guitar work over a barrage of bass fuzz and stoner percussive groove. This is Project Mayhem: a dynamic hybrid of individual influence and experience, one of those rare breeds where the group is greater than the sum of its parts; a frenzied cathartic stage show with a solid musical base. They say “there ain’t no party like a Mayhem partyâ€â€”and once it’s seen, it has to be believed!
