My Interests

The wave of electrical chill that spreads across my body, like an action potential on a cell membrane, when I experience something wonderous.

When a strong beat takes residence inside my chest, reverberating it's echoes to my extremities, causing them to flail blindly like a man possessed. Sure, people get hurt, but who am I to deny the gods their casualties of dance?

Writing overly dramatic sentences...Books, Creativity, Obsessiveness, Learning, Teaching, Science vs. Religion, Language, Calvin and Hobbes, NPR, nature, noticing how much greener a forest is after rainfall, ellipses, random vs. fate, the calm of symmetry, the excitement of asymmetry, eyes, coffee shops, the smell of used bookstores, robots...

Admiring art in all its forms, seeing art where others did not, sharing art with others, interpreting myself through art, interpreting others through art.
Traveling, experiencing cultures unknown to me, sometimes being absolutely confused and lost, sometimes experiencing knowledge and control.

I'm obsessed with maintaining fascination and wonder, and afraid of taking amazing things for granted. This search for ultimate and limitless wonder manifested in a career of biology and medicine, B-cells and bacteria, health and sickness, birth and death, happiness and depression.
I enjoy a good soccer match, and I WILL find some way to get to Berlin next year for world cup 2006. I've done a fair bit of snowboarding, but not in a while.
O yeah, and videogames (we can call it interactive art if it sounds better), and I'm PROUD of it, dammit!

I'd like to meet:

a conscious being from a different phylum...but people are good too. Moved here for work, and I don't have much in common with my colleages, so I'm mostly looking for friends to hang out in the bay area or LA which I visit frequently.

Music:

Music that sounds like electricity's soul, that kinda dancy hip-hop, house, deep house, turntablism, breakbeat, trance, vocal trance, 80's electro-pop, dance anthems, world music...

Movies:

"Run Lola Run" defines love. "Memento" kicks ass. "Blade Runner" is an existential romp. "Children of Heaven" made me cry. 5th element. All that good sci-fi guy stuff like Star Wars and Matrix. Pi, Cube. Eternal sunshine, and something or other. Contact, but the book is way better. Animation, especially CG. Amelie, Friday, Back to the Future, gotta love Indiana Jones, anything with Bill Murray

Television:

JAN IS SO FRIGGIN' SEXAH!!

the apprentice and survivor, only because it's the only reality tv i've found that i can watch for free online. But, when i visit my cable-equipped friends, pretty much any reality tv is up for grabs. People are crazy, i love it!
