About Me

i play all the instruments no one plays "air" versions of (accordion, button box, uilleann pipes, highland pipes, tin whistles, english concertina, hurdy gurdy and a couple others) in jackdaw (voted buffalo's best rock band 5 years running). i am also the official bagpiper for the buffalo bandits lacrosse team, the former erie county's sheriff's department pipe sergeant, and the piper to the grand pooba (which makes sense to some).
during the rest of the week, i work as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. it pays the bills, and my work's won some rather decent awards from CA and Print (not that any of that means shit, but you know, it makes my mom proud).
i've lived with the same roommate for over 7 years... and no, we've never dated. we've got a very jack and janet thing goin' on... or will and grace, if will was straight and grace wasn't annoying as hell... or bosom buddies... except neither of us really wants to be peter scolari.
i think people should always offer to bring you soup when you're sick. not that i'd take advantage of such offers (i realize you're busy) but still, one ought to offer.
contrary to popular belief i do not now, and never have worked at the left bank.
i spend more money on my cat's healthcare than my own and i'm relatively sure my accordion's worth more than my car.
i am an astoundingly bad cook. not due to lack of talent mind you, but lack of effort AND talent. i know how to make one dish which i like to call "i'll bet you can fry that."
i'm goin' home soon, and it feels really good. it's been too long.
brokencans.com... it ain't like i'm a hard s.o.b. to track down...

My Interests

showing up late and staying past close, wednesdays at roxy's, fridays at left bank, saturdays at the pink, playing loud obscure instruments, naked bagpiping (long, but entertaining story), drinking ginger beer and the sneezing that inevitably ensues, most anything in bad taste

I'd like to meet:

embarrassingly wealthy, heirless relatives who happen to be on death's door...

anyone looking to get rid of an old (read: free) accordion...

hot dames who want to buy me a beer who aren't offended by the fact that i frequently use phrases like "hot dames who want to buy me a beer"...

fans of elipses...

Music:

the clash, the pogues, the smiths, morrissey, the pixies, the police, the streets, sam cooke, steve earle, paris combo, otis redding, johnny cash, barry manilow, bowie, nwa, quartetto gelato, elvis costello, lyle lovett, il giardino armonico, the replacements, william shatner, stina nordenstam, new order, son volt, neil diamond, cesaria evora, the roots, the jam, the frames, the the, 16 horsepower, patsy cline, jean corti, john williams (the irish trad. free reed player - not the star wars guy), most any member of the gilberto family, nina simone, the la's, bauhaus, ac/dc, jackdaw

Movies:

piranha, say anything, great escape, snatch, to sir with love, le hussar sur le toit, pan's labrynth, little miss sunshine, homeward bound: the incredible journey (not the original, but the remake where don ameche is the voice of the golden retriever - it's a friggin' tearjerker), amelie, a very long engagement, tao of steve, stripes, the jerk (i'm naming my first child "navin"), you got served (but only the dancin' parts... not so much on the talkin' parts), love actually ('cause, yeah, i'm a candyass), robot jox, cool hand luke, big fish, pretty in pink, anything with rutger hauer (blood of heroes, lady hawk, that marginally-plausible movie where he's a blind samurai/former POW), in the name of the father (really bad first date story surrounding that one), the original version of cheaper by the dozen (but mostly for the irony), anything with john cusack or sidney poitier.

Television:

that aerobics show that usually comes on pbs at, like, 5 in the morning where they have 3 incredibly unattractive people doing the exercises, but (and here's the catch) one of them is doing the "low effort" exercises, one of them is doing the "medium effort" routine, and the third is (wait for it...) doing the "high effort" moves. this could totally be a midwest thing though..., nova, most anything on pbs at 3 in the morning... extra points if alan alda is hosting

Books:

the stranger, ficciones, love in the time of cholera, the things they carried, walden, augustine's confessions, chip kidd: book one: work: 1986-2006, the art of looking sideways, visual explanations: images and quantities, evidence and narrative, jimmy corrigan: the smartest kid on earth, mythology (hamilton), the little prince, borstal boy, anything kafka, anything yeats, anything emerson, anything rilke, the talking phone book, mcsweeney's, schott's original miscellany, any decent poetry anthology
