I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm a New Jersey transplant who has lived in Santa Monica for over twenty years. God has blessed me beyond words. I have just committed to helping an incredible organization who are helping to bring much needed aid to the victims of the current crisis in Darfur, as well as victims of the Tsunami and hurricane Katrina. Please visit http://www.aidstillrequired.org/ to learn more about them and how you can help.
I have had a most interesting ride so far. Have met some of the most amazing people in the world and have seen beauty that almost blinded my eyes. I am a student of life and a member of The Family of Light. I love to read and am a total film geek. Music and dancing are as essential as food! I confess that I do watch some TV but after being the biggest fan of "The Wire" I am forever ruined for the usual common fare offered to us by most networks. The folks back in Baltimore have raised the bar so high, I fear I will never find anything in the genre ever as satisfying again. Hopefully David Simon and his fellow masters will continue their important work well beyond their next project for HBO scheduled to air later in the year. If you have not seen The Wire, stop reading this right now and go rent (or buy, because you will want them forever) all 5 seasons, and prepare yourself for a life altering experience. Don't rush through them though. Like a really good bottle of fine wine, they need to be savored.
After film school I struggled to find my place and through a series of event's fell into the music business. The first 5 years were a joy - working back stage at the historic Wiltern Theatre was beyond fabulous. The last 5 - working for record label presidents nearly killed my spirit and I had to get out before it affected my love of music. Those who have worked within that realm back then know what I mean. We knew eventually the monster would consume itself & indeed it did.
About 8 years ago, I dropped out of society so that I could live and work on my own terms and create the time I needed to grow spiritually and work on my creative endeavors. To pay the bills I currently run an eBay business, specializing in recycled womens & mens designer clothing, offering 10% of the profits to charity - currently focusing on several animal rescue groups, humanitarian efforts in Darfur and Children's International. My ebay seller ID is grandmaslittlegirl, in honor of the beautiful woman who raised me. eBay has been good to me for years but I've been getting a strong sense it is time for my next career, as a life coach based on spiritual principles taught by Abraham, Eckhart Tolle, Carolyn Myss, Deepok Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Louise Hay, among many others.
I'm also working on a book and enjoy photography, which can be viewed at www.flickr.com/photos/photocatt/

Music:

Necessary to sustain life! Too numerous to list. I love it all - except old school sad sack country/western. Especially love blues, Coltrane, Bird, Miles, 70's R&R and R&B, Hip Hop & Trance and yes, even Disco.

Movies:

Mostly independents & classics. Character driven pieces. Inspirational true life stories. Current toppers: Crash, A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, Sherry Baby, Volver, Akeelah & The Bee, Alpha Dog, Stranger Than Fiction, Half Nelson, Babel. Old favorites: American Beauty, Unstrung Heroes, Love Actually, Looking For Richard, Goodfellas, Places In The Heart, Godfather II, Sense & Sensibilities, A Room With A View, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, Chinatown, ...

Television:

Finally in January the best of the best show on television, "The Wire", returns for it's 5th and final (say it isn't so!) season and remains my all time top favorite. Nothing is as relevant and well crafted as this series and the masters who create this masterpiece continue to raise the bar making it almost impossible to imagine anything being this good ever again. Anything David Simon is involved in maintains a high level of integrity and bone deep authenticity while sharing stories based on lives of actual people who represent a huge portion of our current population, one that the media does not give attention to. If you missed his other work of art "The Corner", sign off of myspace and pick it up now. Yes, I was also a huge fan of Homicide from it's inception. Other huge fave, the BBC series "Planet Earth". The birds of paradise almost blew the back of my head clear off. Huge fan of first 5 years of SNL, all the Norman Lear shows, Bochco - Hill Street Blues, David Kelly - Picket Fences. First season of Twin Peaks. Also, current tivo list: Heroes, Friday Night Lights, Ghost Whisperer, Life, Inconoclasts, Tell Me You Love Me, Pushing Daisies, Entourage, John From Cincinatti, Nature & Travel shows Also: Six Feet Under, Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life reruns. And, BASKETBALL! But no broadcast 'news programs'ever again!

Books:

Biographies & spiritual books. Books by Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Esther Hicks/Abraham, Agape Sciene of Mind and Louise Hay. Also, rereading the classics. Contemporary favorites: Angela's Ashes, Secret Life of Bees and The Five People You Meet In Heaven remain my top 3.

Heroes:

My grandmother...hands down! Anyone actively participating in healing our beloved Mother Earth and all of her inhabitants and those. The recognizable ones: Dalai Lama, Deepok Chopra, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Marianne Williamson, Maya Angelou, Sidney Poitier, Bono, Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Audrey Hepburn, Jeffrey Sachs, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Norman Lear, Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn & mostly all those unsung heroes we never see or hear about.
