Cancer SUCKS!

About Me

HI My name is Sonya Van Dam, I am the beautiful wife of the most amazing husband in the world, Rob Van Dam. He also happens to be an equally amazing pro wrestler. We met in 1996 in Savannah, GA, the first time my life changed forever. I NEVER believed in love at first sight until it happened to me! When we met the world stopped. Literally! I shook his hand looked into his eyes and the club went silent. I felt funny and excited inside, so much so I asked him out on our first date. We have been happily ever after ever since! We married/eloped in Jamaica on the beach, a childhood dream of mine. ( Dream man included) Life is GOOD! For all the couples getting married, two things. 1. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make the other person your number ONE priority everything else will work itself out. 2. Be supportive no matter how silly the idea or whatever.(makeup or comic books) Be the voice of reason in a nice way but always be supportive. Ten months into happily ever after we were involved in a horrific jetski accident. I broke my femur and my tib/fib. The second time my life changed. It took three surgeries and five years of rehab to put me back in heels. I learned a lot during that time in my life...like who your friends are and are not, and that my husband has the most amazing, caring fans in the world. Most importantly I learned what I’m made of. Tuff stuff!Things happen in life that you don’t understand until many years later. The accident was one of those things. It was prep for the third time my life changed. On April 7, 2008 a bomb was dropped on happily ever after. I had CANCER! WHAT?! I didn’t understand. I still don’t. No family history with cancer. I eat organic, stay away from red meat, drink tons of water everyday, exercise! I do all the things you should do. So how- at 32 -did I have colon cancer inside me? I had stomach cramps; since when did stomach cramps = cancer? Well...for me it did. It meant I was looking at three surgeries and six months of chemo. Two surgeries later and two chemo treatments in I’m doing great. I try to hit pilates at least twice a week on my off chemo weeks; I even biked four miles today! I’m very much looking forward to my I kicked cancers ass world tour and living the rest of my life cancer free!
