My Interests

.. width="425" height="350" ..

I'd like to meet:

I hate people. This is not to say I'm not a compassionate human being. As a matter of fact, it's quite the opposite. I can be very soft hearted. However, I fully expect one to at least TRY and use the brain provided and do something for themselves. I am more willing to lend a helping hand if my hand is not alone. There are many things that annoy the crap out of me. One of them is the blatant disregard of the english language. Much of it is pure laziness. Some of it can be blamed on our failing education system. Much of the failing education system can be blamed on a political structure that is so corrupt, it is, I fear, beyond repair. That brings me to another annoyance. Politics and the PEOPLE running our country. So, let me take this opportunity to get just a couple of things off my chest.YOUR: The word is an adjective. It basically shows possession or is used as a modifier before a noun. example: "Put your shoes .. you go outside" "Your room is a mess"YOU'RE: This is a contraction. A contraction combines two words, usually by replacing a letter or combination of letters, with an apostrophe. This particular contraction is made up of the words "you" and "are" making the word and the phrase interchangable. YOU'RE does not show possession. example: You're an intelligent human being so please stop misusing this contraction in place of the word "your". example: You are an intelligent human being.THERE: This word defines a place. As in, not here, but there. example: George and Laura live in that house? I don't don't want to live anywhere near there!THEIR: This is the possessive form of the word THEY. It does not define a place. It defines something that belongs to a group. example: In my opinion, their politics contradict their religion.THEY'RE: Another contraction! Remember this lesson? They are. That's right class. They, as in a group. example: They're going to realize our education system has failed our youth. And one of my BIGGEST pet peeves! THEN: This is the past tense of the word NOW. example: It's too late to vote now, you should have voted then!THAN: This word is a conjunction. It is most often used as a comparative word or to introduce a second set of words. example: Big Bird would have made a better leader than our current president.THEN and THAN are not interchangable. They have completely different meanings, completely different sounds, completely different origins. It baffles me how these two words are consistently misused. STOP IT!Grammar, punctuation and spelling are suffering more and more. I don't believe it is stressed enough in school. I'm sure I'm as guilty as anyone else, of poor grammar and misspelled words. At least I try and I'm aware of what I write. I look for my mistakes and I'm genuinely embarrassed when I later see them. Our nation looks ignorant and it is because that we are striving for mediocre students, instead of excellent. Our government insists that all students are educated the same and that prevents any of them from excelling unless there is more than a small flame of talent to be fanned. No, our fine leaders have deemed it appropriate to keep everyone on the same level, perhaps because, if they dumb us down, they have more success at hiding their dastardly deeds.I encourage all to pay attention to the political structure in our country. Get out and vote, not for the dominant parties, but for the independent candidates that are fighting to make a difference. Find the platform that really means something to YOU and FIGHT for it. Let's shake this country up. Let us show the Republicans and the Democrats that our country is ready for accountability.

Books:

Over the years, books have been my friends, my escape. Vacations without leaving home, a place to hide when I didn't need to be found. A way to explore far away places and learn about different cultures. Books are old friends, worthy of the devotion of re-reading many, many times. A few that deserve that devotion are "Jubilee Trail" by Gwen Bristow, "Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain, the entire "Little House" series by Laura Ingalls Wilder and Dr. Suess (many of which I can still recite, though my children are grown) "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling.

Heroes:

Without any hesitation......my parents. To have been a witness to a love so strong is one of the greatest gifts I've ever been given.
