About Me

The Lovecraft started out collectively in the year 1999. Formed by Farul Azri and Pitt, members of Death Becomes Her (DBH) and featured musician, programmer, DJ and sound engineers from various bands includes Malaysian finest old skool hardcore act, Second Combat and Malaysian leading Hard Core act, Dash Own. The collective main purpose was to create dark ambient and moody sounds for the project after being concentrated on hard and distorted beats for their current bands. The name took place when Farul decided to imply the title taken from the ‘mysterious’ novel written by Mary Shelley. That’s when The Lovecraft was born.

The very first starting line-up that ‘build’ the band was Farul and Pitt of DBH’s on keyboards, programming and drums while Lee a.k.a Atuk an ex-member of Second Combat on bass and Fazrin on guitar. They’ve wrote a few numbers an appeared on mp3.com back then. By that time, the band only wrote instrumental trippin’ numbers without any vocal part. By the end of the year 1999, they release their first 5 tracks CD entitled ‘Imaginary Songs’ which is only distributed among circle of friends.

In the middle of 2000, the band saw the departure of Fazrin and his position was replaced by Black of Scuffle Opus. They worked on a few more numbers for more releases but due to their daily routine, they got lack of time for composing and producing a new track. Black didn’t stay long and departed later. Farul then took the guitar position while still concentrating on programming stuff.

The band later release their second instrumental CD entitled ‘Lost Emotion’ which has also being distributed among circle of friends throughout Malaysia and other countries. The release has attracted Kery to join in the band later as their first female vocalist. A few numbers from the release also did find its way to mp3.com and get good feedbacks from listeners worldwide.

In 2001, the band grows with another female vocalist. Line (pronounce Lynn), a former editor comes writer of a fanzine called ‘Rhea’s Obsessions’ join in The Lovecraft. With her deep and dark image combining with Kery sarcastic and weird expression makes the collective becomes much more unique by now. They started to wrote haunting lines and vibes within the music. ‘Obsessions’ was one of the songs that featured Line and Kery’s most provocative work back then.

In the middle of 2001, Asrie of Dash Own joined in as a new guitarist. This has let Farul to go back and concentrate on his programming stuff and let Asrie handle all the guitar parts. But Asrie didn’t stay long. He had more interest on heavy sounds of music and by the end of 2001, he left the band due to concentrate on his earlier band, Dash Own. Asrie later in 2004 formed another metal band called Before She Die.

Kery stay for about two years with the band. While they worked on a few tracks but didn’t come out with any proper releases, the band saw another departure of their members. Kery left the band due to concentrate on her study in university and has decided to quit the band. Her decision did disappoint other members, but this news just can’t stop them from keeping up in making good music. Yet they still encourage Kery with her study and keep supporting for her future success. DJ Uno also joins in later which he later added a few scratchy turntables sound on a few number including ‘So Life’ (Rare Mix Version) – Release on ‘Systematrix’ The Independent Sounds of Electro Fusion Compilation Volume 1).

By this stage, the front line section for the vocal part has come to Line alone and yet still the band keeping up progressing and changing. They worked on a new numbers and started planning for a proper release. In the end of 2002, Lee departs and was replaced by Fird-Pening as their new bassist. At this stage, they’ve stop writing new songs and try to focused on rearranging, remixing, rewriting their old numbers. They wanted to produce a very unique numbers and something that sound different.

The band saw their massive changes in the fall of 2003. Pitt left the band due to some problem and later form another trip hop act called Dirty Trip and followed by Fird, while DJ Uno at this stage has become heavily busy with his routine on producing songs for local artists and to concentrate on his earlier project, Pop Shuvit. This has left Farul and Line still surviving the band.

The band later release 1 songs in ‘Systematrix - The Independent Sound of Electro Fusion Compilation Vol. 1’ entitled ‘So Life’. The compilation also features Death Becomes Her, Cyberwerk, Lurks, Ctrl Alt Delete, Syko G and more.

In the middle of 2004, Shaz joined the band as a new guitarist. These three piece bands continue their musical journey. In the fall of 2004, Kech later joined in as their new bassist. They continue writing new materials with their newly 4 piece members. But Shaz didn’t stay long either. She departs in 2005. This has left the band back to 3 piece acts up until today.

In the fall of 2007, Miss Line leave the band due to some other commitment she made and leave the band searching for new vocalist to replace up until today. In late 2007, The Lovecraft received massive air play on a New York based radio station called Break Through Radio on a Down tempo Music segment. In the same time the band has as well breaks Europe market with their songs being heard here and there in most of the European mega cities especially Milan, Italy. The band currently is working out to boost their music in Japan and other Asian countries.

The Lovecraft is here to stay....
