About Me

David Box currently lives in Los Angeles, California. He is the Professor of Saxophone and Director of the Jazz Studies at La Sierra University. Born and raised in Southern California, his passion for music started at a very young age with the piano, then drum set, and finally saxophone. After going to college for three years in Southern California he received an offer to study with the world-renowned classical saxophonist Harvey Pittel at the University of Texas at Austin. Due to a scholarship and the reputation of the institution Mr. Box knew he would receive a versatile education in jazz and classical saxophone while participating in a thriving art community. Since his move to Austin, Texas in the summer of 1998 David has won the Riverside Concerto competition in California, performed the A. Glazounov Concerto with orchestra, recorded on eight albums, two commercials, and one movie. He has performed and studied with some of the countries leading artists including Michael Brecker, Phil Woods, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra backing Harry Connick, and numerous Austin based artists and groups. Mr. Box was a featured musician and musical instructor for the recent Disney movie release "The Alamo", has played for numerous plays and musicals, and organizes and performs with his own jazz or classical groups. His desire to communicate emotions about his life and current affairs through his art has been winning over audiences throughout the world. David's decision to settle in Los Angeles was prompted by his continued success within the world of film music. With the growth of his production company, Colburn Bay Productions, he continues to gain experience and grownd in the film industry.February 2005 marked the release of his first jazz album titled "Transformation". It features all original compositions with David playing all four saxophones throughout the album. You can also listen to Rich Harney (Piano) Mike Porter (bass), Mike Koenning (drums) and special guest Ron Stout (trumpet) on two tracks. This exciting new release will helps document the talents of this young artist. Please look for these releases in you local stores and online in the music store on this site.In January 2006 Film Score Magazine included David on their Hot Sheet for his score to the independent film "The Devil Wears Spurs". He was ranked next to notable film composer in this issue like James Newton Howard for "King Kong", Michael Giaccino for "Mission Impossible III and The Incredibles." Thank you to everyone that made this amazing score happen and become so widely accepted.David is in the process of returning to his favorite US city of Austin, T.X. during August, 2007. Upon his return he will work on the completion of his newly commissioned Symphony No. 1 and will finish his first classical album featuring 7 new works for saxophone by other composers who are his close friends Rob Deemer, Brad Johnston, Kyle Kindred, and John Hartmann. This looks to be an exciting year for music so keep posted at www.davidboxmusic.com or here on myspace.
