Born and raised in Southwest England, Miss Divine is no stranger to the rest of the world. Divine has not only held residencies in Naples, Poland, and Ibiza but her passport has been stamped on her travels to drop blinding sets in India, Russia, and Miami.........
“I love playing outside of the UK. Although I travel a lot it’s a nice break for me to set up base in a nice hotel for a few nights and sample the world’s cuisine”
Miss Divine’s native base was Bristol before moving to London 2 years ago.
“I felt the move was right for me, I had played all the clubs in the south west but struggled find venues for my sound when the south west went Electro crazy. Being a farm girl moving to London was scary at first but it gave me so many more opportunities.”
Miss Divine has held a residency in Ibiza for past 4 years, playing at some of the islands infamous hot spots such as Amnesia, Mambo, Es Paradis, Eden, Es Vive, Savannah, and Hush.
“My proudest accomplishment was playing Amnesia Terrace after Steve Angello. It was the biggest venue I had played at in Ibiza so I was pretty nervous but soon settled into it. I dropped a Trentmoller remix of Delirium Silence and held up my lighter to the crowd on the breakdown, soon all you could see was a sea of flames go up and everyone singing. It was a very special moment”
Not satisfied with just DJ’ing, Miss Divine has also had a hand in promoting a charity event for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. La Vita was born in March 2007 and has gone from strength to strength with Todd Terry headlining the 1st birthday in March this year.
“The idea started when I first moved to London, I had played at various charity events in Bristol and I was shocked to see that no one was doing it in London. La Vita means ‘life’ in Italian so I put the idea to a few friends and asked them if they could help me organise a party. I sourced a venue and the planning began, before I knew it we had 25 female DJ’s, 2 live PA’s, dancers, stilt walkers, fire breathers the works. The buzz around the whole idea was phenomenal and everyone wanted to be a part of my vision, it was very over whelming. La Vita has been running for just over a year and to date has raised £15,000. “Everyone involved with La Vita are proud that we can provide events that people love, and utilize those great nights out to contribute to the fight against cancer.
Miss Divine’s biggest accomplishment of her career is being the very first lady of Defected in the UK. “Considering my first ever record was Barbara Tucker – Beautiful People on Strictly Rhythm, the move to Defected feels like a natural one. I’ve always supported Defected, it’s been my sound from day one. I had a dabble in tech house and minimal but it wasn’t for me, I prefer raving to it than playing it.
Much of what Miss Divine has learned about setting off a dance floor has its genesis from being on the dance floor. “This year I’ve partied in Miami, Berlin, Barcelona and Amsterdam. The rare occasion I get a weekend off I always like to make the most of it. I think it’s important as a DJ to be inspired whether you play that particular style of music or not. I love all genres of music, I wouldn’t pigeon hole myself into anything. If it’s a a good record then I play it. I’m well known for dropping Lionel Richie as my last tune!
So what’s next for Miss Divine? “I have a strong vision of where I want to be in 5 years. I don’t want to be a superstar-DJ I think that is a bygone era. I want to be respected in the industry; be the best I can be. I’ve worked really hard in the past 6 years to get where I am and I’ve done it on my own with the support of friends and Family. I’m very grateful for where I am today and never take advantage of the position I’m in.
