Mack McGhee
Chicago, IL (BlackNews.com) - Mack D. McGhee, a once-troubled youth who turned his life around and went on to motivate thousands of youth, is featured in a recently-published book where he is hailed as one of the nation's Top Up and Coming Motivational Speakers. McGhee, who lives in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, is one of nine from all over the nation featured in the book.
Titled From Mediocre to Magnificent, the book profiles Mack's odyssey from when he was brutally attacked by gang members as a teenager. Pinpointing the violent incident as a "turning point" in his life, McGhee opted to forgive rather than seek retribution against his attackers. Along the way, he became a noted youth counselor, president of a motivational speaking firm and a young man with an impressive record of Transforming Lives.
The compendium, which is published by LifeChangers International, features a diverse mix of speakers nationwide whose message, style passion and promise are worthy of such acclaim.
Hailed as a must-have for anyone interested in inspiration, the book was conceived by Kevin Bracy, a world-renowned motivational speaker who was trained by Les Brown. In crisscrossing the country identifying up-and-coming speakers, the nine featured in this compilation stood out.
Bracy characterizes McGhee as "an inspirational treasure whose powerful presence is eclipsed only by his dynamic message of hope and inspiration. He is truly phenomenal, awesome and commanding in his presence and in his message. His dynamic style underscores why he is able to arouse and motivate."
The chapter on Mack traces his life from when he was attacked by a claw hammer on New Year's Eve when he was 19. While in the hospital recovering from the vicious attack, he realized that he had sunk to a low point of his life: He was on academic probation on the verge of flunking out of school and was thriving in a circle that put him in the line of a fire. His life was bleak. While angry, he resisted the urge to retaliate and forgive and decided to devote his life to helping troubled youth. Determined to make something out of his life he worked diligently to climb off of academic probation and transferred to Governors State University where he successfully completed a BA Degree in Criminal Justice. He continued on to complete a MA in Political and Justice Studies by the age of 24.
Along the way, he discovered he had a special gift at connecting with youth. In urging youth to turn their lives around, he evolved into a compelling and powerful speaker and motivator. Now 35 years old, McGhee has spoken to thousands of youth and adults. His message is simply to help others to discover their purpose through inspiration.
McGhee has brought his compelling message and presence to a series of positions including as Post-Release Administrator for Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC) and the Illinois Department of Corrections. He is the past Deputy Director for Youth Outreach Services and oversees all Programs & Services in the City of Chicago including Truancy Initiative, Substance Abuse Treatment, Youth Development & Prevention, Multi-Systemic Therapy, Family Centered Services and two Evening Reporting Centers. He is also a Consultant for Governors State University where he advises the college on how to reach youth.
He once headed the Austin-community-based Project Cease Fire and hired its staff. This youth outreach/crime prevention initiative made such phenomenal strides in addressing crime on Chicago's west side that First Lady Laura Bush hailed the program as a model of effectiveness. As a show of her support, she recently met the staff and heard success testimonials during a visit to Chicago.
He is also the CEO of Transforming Lives International, a company he launched in 2006 that is dedicated to helping others discover their purpose through inspiration. Since its founding, McGhee has amassed an impressive roster of clients who have sought him out for his special brand of inspiration.
His formula for reaching youth is embodied in the chapter devoted to his "story," that is titled, "Becoming M.A.C.K.nificent," In the ten-page section, he accounts how his MACK PACK embodies a message that has helped wayward youth find purpose in life, helped the homeless get on their feet and become contributing citizens and helped transform those with fragile psyches into individuals brewing with confidence.
Using his name he says his MACK Pack contains the keys that vaulted him to success. They are:
Motivation
Attitude
Commitment and
Knowledge
