one time we were at the chevron on ocean st.. a car came speeding down the hill and ran straight into the gas pump across from us. it exploded into little bits but wasn't on fire yet. the driver was unconscious and his car was on top of the mess that used to be a gas pump. fumes engulfed the car but we didn't wait around for them to ignite, we ran the other way. right then we heard honking and it was a tercel trying to cross trafic. it was mother's day and ocean st was crowded. the driver made it across and drove into the chevron parking lot. he charged right up to this unstable accident, jumped out of the car with a fire extinguisher and started laying into a small fire under the hood of the crashed car. i'm pretty sure he saved that guys life. the chevron employees never left the safety of their building. i read in the sentinel the next day that the guy in the tercel worked at the 76 across the street. he said when he frist saw the fumes he thought "the whole block was going to go." that's when he immedietly grabbed the extinguisher, got into a car that they were working on and charged the fire. we ran. he rushed it. i remember thinking 'that guy is an actual hero.'
