About Me

About My Work:My challenge is this: how effectively can I communicate emotion with the simplest of lines? I seek to distill emotion to its barest essense through line art (a high falootin' term for doodling).

Specifically, I'm interested in people and their relationships; to other people, places, situations and things.

I often resort to emotion on the level of irony. I love irony. If you can see irony in my work, then I'm doing my job.

If you have time check out this article in the San Diego Union Tribune in which the first show of the collective is reviewed, as is some of my artwork:

My Interests

So I've got this blog going...A "Blank" A Day.

Every day a new sketch (what have I gotten myself into?) and every 30 days a new subject to sketch. Its RSS feed is below and you can subscribe by hitting the tiny RSS button on the widget's upper right hand corner.

If you are more comfortable viewing the blog directly, just go to http://www.ablankaday.blogspot.com

I'd like to meet:

Titled: "So Sick of You"

When I first sketched this two-headed person it was for a series inspired by "carnies" or carnival-folk who were societal outcasts. As I continued work, however, it became crystal-clear to me that this was more authentically a piece about family. Whether good or bad, family consists of relationships that we don't have the luxury of choosing. Despite the fact that we share the same genes, mannerisms and likenesses, we can be world's away from identifying with even our closest of relatives.

Television:

This animated video is so beautiful...just found it. The music is by the Swedish group "The Knife."..

Books:

For increasing my art-dexterity I enjoy "Drawing On the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards.

I've got to tell you that if you give this book and the assignments in it a go (and take it seriously), even the self-proclaimed "I can't even draw a stick figure" artists can do great things.
