About Me

Kavin. (yes, thats Kavin with a period!) describes his playing as "eclectic acoustic" and turbo acoustic, embodying elements of folk, rock & blues and utilizing both 6 and 12 string guitars. His original songs cover a variety of subjects; historical themes, science fiction and of course, personal experiences. Kavin. also plays instrumentals in various styles, fingerstyle and flatpick, sometimes using alternate tunings and slide.
After twenty five years of playing guitar and songwriting,Kavin. (pronounced like "Gavin") stepped out onto the public stage in 1998, performing in the musical production of "The Man Who Rides The Wind" (Main Street Theatre, Mansfield,Texas). Perry Stewart of the Fort Worth Star Telegram described Kavin.'s "fine guitar work" in his review of that stage production. He was also a semi-finalist in the B.W.Stevenson songwriting competition at Poor David's Pub in 2000 in Dallas with his songs "Over the Falls" and "Hang Up and Drive". Since then he has played in a wide variety of venues in and around the Fort Worth area, treating audiences with his engaging songwriting and unique guitar playing style.
He has recently released his cd "Texas Tonefreak" which displays his diverse songwriting and propulsive guitar technique.
“Very enjoyable - not just for guitarists who will be awed by his blending of styles - but also by non-musicians who just enjoy good songwriting. This artists deserves a listen.” - download.com

Music is my religion, my addiction, and primary method of staying sane in this crazy world. I believe that music can heal, relieve stress, bring peace and bridge the gaps that separate us all, be it race, ethnicity, religion, age, lifestyle, whatever.
My first GOOD guitar was/is an Alvarez 12-string, 70's vintage, which I still play. It sounds sweeter with each passing year. I also use these 6-strings:Takamine EF-341C,Taylor 814-CE and a Sigma DM-4, which I use for open tunings and has a custom paint job: a version of Michaelangelo's Sistine chapel mural, actually found on the album cover of "Fathers and Sons" which shows the Black Blues God in heaven handing down a resonator to the cocky white kid Adam.
The music I play is a mixture of acoustic Blues,Rock,Folk,fingerstyle instrumental,Hawaiian slack-key,Piedmont, banjo-style fingerpicking (I use fingernails,no fingerpicks). My sets are usually one-half originals/one-half cover tunes,one-half songs/one-half instrumentals.
These are some of the artists I cover: Neil Young,Beatles,Pink Floyd,Jimi Hendrix,John Lennon,Procol Harum,Fleetwood Mac,Led Zeppelin,Jethro Tull,Robert Johnson,Lightnin' Hopkins,Bill Broonzy,Leo Kottke,Jefferson Airplane,Jorma Kaukonen,Muddy Waters,Woody Guthrie,Duane Allman. I even do fingerpicky instrumental versions of James Brown's "I Feel Good" and the Flintstones theme.
Check out my gig dates, I would love to play for you!
I am also very interested in doing gigs such as house concerts and parties, wedding receptions, mall openings...whatever!
