Against the Grain are a 3-piece rock band from the Llanelli area in South Wales, Great Britain. Brothers Darren Lee (bass) and Daniel Lee (drums) met guitarist and vocalist Kirk Bowen in April 2004 with the intention of starting an original rock band that write their own material, and have been together as a band since. The band like to concentrate on writing their own material and now have over 20 original songs and they are constantly developing new ones. The band members have a variety of musical influences, which has resulted in what they like to think as some very original songs of their own. The band dont like to think of themselves as having a particular style, but they strive to have variety and originality in their material.Their first demo CD was recorded live with the whole band being recorded at once, but it did not achieve the desired result. It contained 7 tracks and allowed them to hear what the tracks sounded like on CD.This second demo CD contains 3 tracks and it showcases their ever-improving musicianship. It was recorded using an 8-track with each instrument being recorded separately. The intention with the demo is to send it away to appropriate record companies in the hope of getting a record deal. The band have also played several gigs and open-mic nights in their local area and they were also the opening band of a music festival in their area. Each time they play at a venue it is a good experience and they improve their performance. They have also got to know several of the other bands in their area, which has created more gig opportunities. All three members of Against the Grain are dedicated individuals.
