Emerging in autumn 2005 and comprising of Nikolai Ribnikov, Thomas Jones and Jason Young, Screaming Eagle are one of the brightest stars involved in the South Wales music scene. Within their first 6 months the band had already produced two releases, played extensively in and around their hometown of Swansea and gained much respect as well as a loyal following from the renowned local ‘stoner-rock’ scene. This constant level of hard work has helped them attain a reputation for a heavy output of original, quality material.
Through extensive practice, combined-influences and focus the band’s musical style has slowly evolved from simple blues-stoner rock affair into what they now term as ‘doom-jazz’.
Jazz and ‘swing’ influences can be heard in Ribnikov’s crooning and epic vocals, as well as the addition of saxophonist James Duggan’s rapid and experimental jazz licks. The doom impact, on the other hand, is evident in the dark, heavy, atmospheric instrumentals.
Artistic guitar work, raging bass lines, forceful beats and powerful lyrics (a mix of human nature and Slavic literature no less) unite the band into an epic ‘power-trio’, which drives their original sound vehemently into the awaiting ears of an ever-expanding and eager public ear.
Slowly raising their profile throughout 2006/07, Screaming Eagle recently completed their first full-length album ‘Wake Up The Dawn’ at the renowned Mighty Atom Studios, and armed with one of the most exciting debuts to come out of South Wales for a long time, prepare to take their sound to the people.
