Lo Ra is the desire to find back the instinctive wisdom of childhood, the primary intelligence that the human kind tends to lose with maturity. The music of Lo Ra is a soft blend of chaos, sensuality, self-destruction syndrome, melancholy and delicacy.
Despite British-tinged dark melodies, Lo Ra reveals hope and optimism. The poetry of the lyrics is carried by a music inspired by grunge and trip-hop, all of it covered in a slightly gothic veil.
The band, initially took shape when Elaine Martin met Jean-Philippe Villemure. The initial plan was to record a cover of the mythic band Joy Divison, but quite fast it led them to create original material. The project was then enriched by the presence of three full-time members : bass player Martin Richard, drummer Isabelle Fortin and multi-instrumentist Martin Mantha. What was to be a simple trip between two passionate hermits has now taken a concrete form on a human scale.
November 2007 brought LoRa’s first LP, « The Right Path ». Montreal’s critics described the band as being « Montreal scene’s greatest hidden secret » and their music as « highly inspired, with a neat production ». LoRa is planning a canadian tour for 2008 and is currently working on their up coming EP.
