Blood Music is a one-man band with a lot of members.
Or something like that.
I,Karl-Jonas Winqvist (also in the band first floor power) started this musical project blood music three years ago and at that time the live-performances consisted of me and my big home-organ. It was rather loose at the beginning.Improvised sets where the songs sometimes were written on stage and occasionally someone from the audience came up to help out. The idea of blood music was to try out things. To risk something. Not aiming to be perfect and not taking the easiest way out all the time.
"Held the hand" was the first thing recorded. A Daniel Johnston cover which can be found on Make it happens compilation album "All songs are sad songs" which was released 2003. Some of the other swedish artists on that album is: paddington distortion combo, testbild, audionom, chihuahua...
Then came a 7'-inch single on promenade recordings.
Six blood music songs which all had a lo-fi feel to them since I recorded them myself on a minidisc without really knowing how to do..
Then it got quiet in the blood music land.
I got ill and had several serious operations because of an aneurysm in the brain. And somewhere between these hospital sessions I started to record the first full-length album together with my friend and recording-maestro Joachim Ekermann.
Now, to play all instruments by myself is a thing I'm not capable of and more important: It would bore me a whole lot! So I started to invite friends to help out on the record. It's more fun together.
And in oct/nov 2005 the debut album "Sing a song fighter" finally was released in Sweden. Eleven songs based on my piano+organs and where guitars often take a step back and make way for the flutes, horns and violins etc.
The album has got really nice reviews which makes me glad and blood music was nominated in Sweden for the alternative music price "Manifest" in the category "best pop/rock 2005".
The line-up changes, like the weather, from day to day.
I think of blood music as a big musical room.
In here I can do whatever I want to.
And friends will always be invited to join in.
Some of them stay for the next round and some will leave early in the morning the day after. And some might come uninvited...
The album was re-released on august the 23rd by the splendid UK label static caravan and hopefully it will be available in most countries in Europe. I say "Yay!"
Nov the 28th 2007 is the release date for the second and completely new Blood Music album. It features eleven songs and the album holds the name "Don Quite". Released in Sweden on the label Make it Happen. Highly recommended, actually... I do believe blood music will stick around for quite some time...
