About Me

(A.K.A. Steve Henry) -- I first got inspired by music when I was 7 years old, when I heard my Mom's 8-track of Steve Miller's "Fly like an Eagle" and Little Joe's "Caliente". I finally picked up the bass when I was 13, doing Judas Priest, Journey & Foreigner covers with my brother Ricky (drums) and cousin Al (guitar). I moved to guitar soon after I began playing bass for my Dad's Chicano band. Through high school I breathed, slept and ate guitar and dreamed of going to Musicians Institute's guitar program in L.A. **********I jammed with a lot of cool cats in Califas, playing everything from metal to blues (Gungus Fungus, Circle of Vengeance and Just Some Brothers). I graduated GIT in 1990 and stayed on as an employee, first in security then as the student store manager. I also had the chance to do some part-time counseling. I have a lot of great memories and made some good friends while I was there. I was privileged to have had instructors like Norman Brown, Pedro Wyant and Scott Henderson. Most of all I learned a lot from my fellow students (Brian Regan, Nathan Scott, Dale Titus, etc.), people who had come from all over the world to study and share their talents. It was an awesome experience. **********I returned to Texas in 1994 and almost immediately started a new Tejano band called Miradas with my old friend Rudy Falcon. Miradas was together for over 5 years and was one of the hottest live bands in West Texas, playing private functions, clubs and dance halls. -- Rudy and I continue to gig occasionally with various musicians (including my monster bass-player brother Dofie) as "Los Guys". **********In 1999 I joined a talented young singing trio called Brillante as guitarist/musical director. At the time the girls (Sonia Juarez; Brandi & Krystal Molinar) had a recording contract with Sony Discos. Brillante recorded two albums, "El Amor" & "Junto a Mi" but unfortunately disbanded after a few short years. This was a great experience also as we had the chance to play all over Texas and New Mexico and attended the Tejano Music Awards. **********Concurrently with Brillante, I was a member of the group Borderline, playing Texas Music all over the Lone Star State. Borderline had a well-earned reputation as one of the wildest live acts in West Texas. **********1999 thru 2005 I recorded/gigged with Texas-based singer/songwriters such as Wes Nickson, Ryan James & Noel Olivas. **********Since summer of 2005 I have been with Brother Z, on call more and more for private/public functions all over Midland/Odessa, TX. **********In late 2005 became an Artist/Musician member of the Academy of Tejano Artists & Musicians, a great organization founded by musicians that focuses on the rich history & heritage of Chicano music. **********Occasionally I sit in with some friends in and around San Antonio, including fellow members of the Tejano Academy. Outstanding musicians and true gentlemen: Joe Jama, Anthony Hernandez, Roger Velasquez, Richard Solis, Rene Garcia, Pete Garza and others. Most recently I had the opportunity to share the stage with David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales and my biggest musical heroes, Los Lobos. **********Currently: still gigging with Brother Z & a new offshoot, WOLF 359; developing a Blues/Rock project with my brother Dofie.) **********I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
