Croatias No1 Hip Hop/R&B DJ and producer DJ Makro Polo, was born on July 2nd 1983 in Split, Croatia. Since his young age he was interested in creating music. He played all kinds of instruments, started listening to Hip Hop in 89' when he moved to Hamburg, Germany. He played classical and electric guitar but started to show his love for the Hip Hop culture in becoming a graffitie artist and a b-boy in 96.
His interest for scratching grew when he heard DJ Q-Bert on Kool Keith's «DR.Octagon Blue Flowers». Finaly, when he moved back to Zagreb, Croatia in the year 2000, he got himselve his first turntable and a mixer... well, It was a Rotel turntable which was older than him with pitch control and a 6-channel mixer with no cross fader but phono/line switches which he used for the cuts... and so he became DJ Sick-stee-nyne, later DJ Killagram and lost his «DJ virginity» in Zagreb's Cab Club. His scratching skills coused big attention and a few months later he became a member of a legendary croatian Hip Hop crew from Split, T.B.F. (The Beat Fleet)He used to «hustle» and sell mixtapes just to get the money right to buy himselve records from a second hand record store near his school in Zagreb where he spent much time with «diggin in the crates», lookin for soul and funk artists who were sampled for Rap songs.
Inspired by legends like Gangstarr's DJ Premier, Pete Rock and DR.Dre together with Zagreb's producer Marvel he started to create his first beats by mixing loops from Old School tracks with soul and funk samples and tried himselve as a MC.
Finaly in 2002, after he dropped the microphone and focused on the production only, together with his cousin Milo Stavros he produced the album for Promili, working in the legendary MORRIS STUDIO with Miro Vidovic, and had his first radio and TV hit, also his first shows on national television.Soon he became one of the most popular croatian DJ's and producers, was nominated for «best croatian DJ» and «Hip Hop DJ of the year», and won. Undefeated in DJ Battles and the first person artists of all genres call if they need scratches on their tracks.In 2002 DJ Makro Polo formed the Hip Hop group BonTon together with Shorty and Saba. He produced&engineerd, worked with and shared the stage with croatias most popular HipHop/RnB/Pop acts (Stoka, Edo Maajka, Shorty, Jacques Houdek, Tram11 (General Woo&Target), Nered, Bolesna Braca, Ivana Kindl, ...)
Also worked on experimental Jazz projects with musicans, such as Matija Dedic, Kiki, Goja, Milo Stavros, Dino Dvornik, ... with a turntable as a instrument.
He had three tracks on the national top20 at the same time, a few No1 hits. Produced three singles for the «Croatian Idol Zanamri Lalic»He was more times DJ on zagreb's main square, Trg Bana Jelacica, the DJ on big happenings, such as VIP-Vodaphone party (over 6000people), openings parties for shops, such as Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Jeans, DJ on the Burton snowboards AM-Tour, NOKIA Leave No Trace Tour, PORIN after party, newyears Wonderland2006 in Pavilion5 for many thousands of people, was resident DJ and often guest in croatias top clubs and events such as Aquarius, Saloon, Hemingway, BaoBab/Gallery, OTV/Boogaloo, Pyranha, GAP, Gjuro2, Maccao and so on...Today he's the CEO of Makropolis Records and the owner of the Makropolis Records Studio, the menager and producer of croatias No1 MC called Stoka, whos album comes out on Croatia Records, works with Jacques Houdek, Lana Klingor, Dino Dvornik, Toni Cetinski and many Hip Hop artists from all over the world. He's a guesst in many croatian TV shows, talk shows and radio shows aswell. Croatias most mentioned DJ in the newspapers, TV and on all kinds of websites. Living the life of a celebrity.Right now, he's working on his first solo project: DJ Makro Polo Makrophone Check Vol.1 which will be released on a major label with many national and world wide well known artists.... and this is just the beginning....
