DJ Cutlass Supreme - UK BASS!!!!

UK BASS SUPREEMO!!!

About Me

Cutlass Supreme has been DJing for ten years with the WIDE collective playing clubs, festivals and radio shows across the UK & Europe. In 2006, Cutlass released his debut EP on WIDE Records, the long-awaited follow up to his UK Bass mix CD for Novamute.Originally starting out as a Drum & Bass DJ in the mid 90's, Cutlass Supreme discovered the US sound of Ghetto Tech after a chance meeting with Detroit's DJ Godfather in 2001. As a result, WIDE began booking US DJs to play at their parties in London and the likes of Godfather, Disco D, DJ Assault, Starski and the UK's Andrea Parker and Ed DMX all joined Cutlass behind the decks. The now infamous WIDE events have been described as everything from a club which ‘injects a bit of fun back into dancefloors, making people shake their butts to seriously dirty music’ to ‘mental, frankly’. Following a trip to the Motor City and Chicago where Cutlass hooked up with major players on the scene, he returned with enough vinyl to kick-start the sound in the UK and become one of its leading exponents in Europe.By 2003, amid an upsurge of new bass music from the UK, Cutlass began fusing Booty, Breaks, Grime and Ghetto Tech to create the sound of UK Bass. With the likes of Debasser, Keith Tenniswood, Paul Blackford and Si Begg all cutting material that could be mixed with the US material.UK Bass has developed a huge following with Novamute releasing his acclaimed UK Bass Mix CD at the end of 2003, appearances on BBC Radio 1's Breezeblock and gigs and festivals across Europe playing alongside the likes of De La Soul, The Streets, Kevin Saunderson, Rolando, Plaid, Peter Kruder, Keith Tenniswood, Giles Peterson and Brian Gee. The UK dance press have been quick to catch the virus, too. Cutlass Supreme has been called ‘one of the most refreshingly inventive jocks we’ve heard in a long time’ and his rapid-fire mixing style as ‘like the Plump DJs only more funky and infinitely more dirty.’ He’s been written about in magazines such as RWD, 7, The Face, Touch, X-Ray and Knowledge. Sleaze Nation magazine made him ‘DJ of the month’ and devoted an entire article to the nascent UK bass scene.2007 has seen the release of Cutlass’s “The Real Ale EP” on WIDE Records to coincide with his appearance at this year’s Bloc Weekend. Cutlass is also preparing for the release of new Booty Breaks material through top breaks producer Deekline’s Rat Records imprint later in the year.Cutlass continues to present his fortnightly internet radio show on Freakin' Radio every other Wednesday from 8 - 10pm. He is now incorporating a laptop in performances with Ableton Live to enable him to mix on the fly between vinyl, CD and MP3.
